I don't understand the hate on the first film. Other than the ham-fisted Shield BS at the end, it's a really good movie. Almost great.
Because most people are too jaded for classic, aw shucks Captain America.
It was very much in the style of an old school adventure film, which just doesn't play well with modern audiences either.
This will probably ring better with folks, but that's where the dislike for the first comes from.

well it was the same director.

Red Skull, then look at partnerships, then in film.
Holy crap. I just figured it out (if they go that way).
May need to have a certain actor's voice change dramatically...

Can someone explain to me how this Captain America movie (and Thor) etc can even be a "standalone" movie?
Why wouldn't Ironman or the other heroes jump in on this?
If its such a big threat and all, they would be there too. How do they explain away the other heroes not being there? You can at least say Thor is fricking around on the wrong planet, but what about the others?
Thanks for the help.

Maybe all the films are happening at the same time.

I'd probably just kill myself if that were the case. What a fricked up planet
I mean, how can all these civilians look blissfully unaware all the time when they are getting blasted by mutants every 10 minutes?
Oh, looks like the wormhole closed up, see you at work tomorrow, Jim!

I thought the first one was hokey, but not really bad. But Captain America's origin story is hokey, so it wouldn't be fair to expect more than that.
I'm really interested to see how the Russo brothers treat the material. It's a little different than Arrested Development. But they got the gig based on the Community season 2 paintball eps. Just like Justin Lin got Fast n Furious because of the season 1 paintball ep.

I mean, Thor went back to Asgard. Stark is on the West coast dealing with Extremis and his shitty armor. Cap is the only one stayng in NYC after the events of the Avengers.
Unless they make another Hulk, I'm sure Banner is kinda staying as far away as possible.
Where this would get really complicated is if Spidey were part of the MCU. Where the hell was Peter Parker when a bunch of aliens were attacking New York?

Just like the way there can be an Avengers comic book, and standalone titles for individual members.

I think you're missing the point.
Timeline wise was what I was getting at. And I'm sure the movies aren't following the comics religiously, so "where is every body?" was my question.

See my post above.
Ya I saw that, so that's how they explain it, that every body is fighting at the same time?
I saw Iron Man 3 with the Mandarin. So that's going on at the same times as Cap. American II?
You just figure Stark/Iron Patriot could shoot over there in about 10 minutes.

I assumed it was all taking place around the same time.
Much like Phase I took place chronologically, Phase II is taking place simultaneously. Now obviously I havent seen Thor yet, so I don't know if they'll have anything happening in New York

Ya I guess I can just accept that, even though I don't recall any bodyreferences the events occurring at the same time as you would think.
Example. The president in Iron Man 3 would mention what's happening in Captain America II if it were the same time wouldn't he? (or is IM2 and Cap Amer II the same time? Or future Iron Man 4 and Cap Amer. II? frick)
Guess I'll live with it.

Throw in that Agents of Shield is also going on.
I'll be interested to see if we get some Thor references once the movie is released.

Ya, this could be bridging it and I haven't seen any of that, probably to my detriment.

And on top of all that, you've got all that shite going down with Phil Coulson and his team on Agents of SHIELD.
Our planet is screwed the frakk up.
