Captain America: Civil War picks up where 'Avengers: Age of Ultron' left off, as Steve Rogers leads the new team of Avengers in their continued efforts to safeguard humanity. After another international incident involving the Avengers results in collateral damage, political pressure mounts to install a system of accountability and a governing body to determine when to enlist the services of the team. The new status quo fractures the Avengers while they try to protect the world from a new and nefarious villain.

quote:

The official cast list includes all the Avengers from the final scene of Avengers: Age of Ultron, including Chris Evans (Captain America, of course), Scarlett Johansson (Black Widow), Anthony Mackie (Falcon), Paul Bettany (The Vision), Don Cheadle (War Machine) and Elizabeth Olsen (Scarlet Witch).

Robert Downey Jr. as Iron Man and Jeremy Renner as the seemingly-retired Hawkeye round out the Avengers returning for Civil War, with only Chris Hemsworth (Thor) and Mark Ruffalo (Hulk) absent. Samuel L. Jackson's Nick Fury and Cobie Smulders' Maria Hill are also noticeably M.I.A.

Sebastian Stan (Bucky Barnes/Winter Soldier), Frank Grillo (Crossbones) and Emily VanCamp (Sharon Carter/Agent 13) return from Captain America: The Winter Solider. New additions (and potential new Avengers) include Paul Rudd as Ant-Man and Chadwick Boseman as Black Panther. William Hurt reprises his Incredible Hulk role as General Thaddeus "Thunderbolt" Ross.

Russo brothers are directing this one too right?

I'm not being negative with the "aka Avengers 3" tag, just honest.

I would've preferred an actual Cap centric film but once they announced it was Civil War, I kind of gave up on that anyway.

ETA:

I just noticed Hurt is coming back as Thunderbolt Ross. I like that.

And it appears speculation is ramping up about just who Daniel Brühl will be playing. cough..cough..RedSkull..cough..cough..

Oh is he? That's good news. Red Skull is way to big of a name to throw into Civil War. He's Thanos level evil.

I've heard Crossbones will be in this one. They've never explained what happened to Red Skull.

probably for the best, that movie was awful.

That's a huge cast. It'll be a challenge, but I loved what these directors did with Cap 2 so I'm very excited for this one.

I don't think Marvel people particularly liked working with the actor either. But I may just be confusing that with other rumors.

I thought I had copied that and the Crossbones thing in the op at first but apparently not. Fixed

Yeah...no issue with that.

It does bring up an interesting question...where has Betty Ross been? Thor gets Jane Foster...Iron Man get Pepper Potts... I mean...I'm sure Bruce isn't complaining about Black Widow, but in both previous Hulk movies we saw how important the Bruce/Betty relationship was. Surely after Incredible Hulk and he resurfaced in NYC with The Avengers Betty would have reached out...right?

Just seems odd they've basically forgotten about her character entirely.

How are any of those 15 characters going to be on screen long enough to connect with the audience?

Go watch The Longest Day of The Dirty Dozen to get your answer. Heck, even Saving Private Ryan did it. You can do it.

Betty might want to go to Bruce but if Banner can't even bring himself to date a fellow Avenger I doubt he is willing to ever risk being with her again. But he probably doesn't feel like dealing with General Ross's bullshite.

Glad to see another connection from The Incredible Hulk in a later Marvel movie. William Hurt plays a good disgruntled general. I don't think Red Hulk would make any sort of appearance here?

***SPOILER****

I also think you could do without ScarJo in this one. She doesn't really have much purpose other than to go find Bruce, I guess.

***SPOILER OVER***

You could probably take Hawkeye out of this one as well. Going to be hard to give each character the required screen time you'd think they need to have any sort of depth. Just my two cents.

According to some potential spoilers I've seen, big things will happen to Black Widow and Hawkeye in Cap 3.

Red Skull was responsible for Rogers fate at the end of Civil War

Yeah, but I know the film universe won't follow up on Cap's death(if it happens) in a Cap sequel before Infinity War so I'd just rather them not involve Skull if he can't be the big bad of a larger arc

Likely wont because Chris Evans has already released his Infinity War shooting schedule.

ETA: Here's some info on it:
quote:

Captain America is one busy superhero. Fresh on the heels of promoting Avengers: Age of Ultron, actor Chris Evans has revealed his shooting schedule for the upcoming Captain America: Civil War and Avengers: Infinity War. The third Cap film will shoot over the next several months, but the two-part Avengers epic will take the better part of a year.

“We start [Captain America: Civil War] in a couple weeks, and then that shoots until August or something like that. August or September,” Evans told Esquire.com. “Then I’ve got some downtime and I can do with it as I please…And then we start the Infinity War, I think, some time in the third quarter. Fall or winter of 2016. That’s going to be like nine months to shoot both movies back to back.“

Also, here's some info on Civil War:
quote:

Though Avengers: Age of Ultron is still taking the world by storm, the attention is already on next year’s Captain America: Civil War, which will draw a line in the sand and divide the Marvel cinematic universe. Speaking with MTV, Captain America himself, Chris Evans, opened up about the movie calling it a set-up for the “real battle” in 2018 and 2019’s Avengers: Infinity War.

“It’s to jump off into the next Avengers, Infinity War,” Evans said. “So Cap 3 is going to be the set-up of the real battle, so there are a lot of people.”

In addition, Jeremy Renner and Scarlett Johansson revealed that they know whose “side” they’ll be on for the conflict, but they wouldn’t divulge.

Feeling left out, Mark Ruffalo pointed out that he won’t be in the film which prompted Johansson to respond: “Well you never know, there’s always time…I’ll talk to the Russos about it.”

Would the Guardians of the Galaxy be included in the Infity War premise?

I know Marvel has released their plans for all future movies, but I haven't really read into it.

A lot of people think there will definitely be a cross over, but James Gunn tossed out the idea. Some say he's just trying to make it a surprise.
quote:

“We really are separate from the Avengers, and I don’t think people should assume too many things about the Guardians play in all this. We have our own galaxy to take care of. We have our own galaxy to save. Earth is the Avengers’ province. Thinking that everything is going to come together in a perfect way is not necessarily the way it’s going to happen.”

I don't buy that for a second

You don't make earth such a vital part of the first movie if you had no real intentions of going there
