Singer's two Xmen movies are two of the best comic movies ever. I don't get all the hate.

I'll agree. But the effects of those two films has been a weak world carried by only one halfway interesting character.

He hasn't served the X-Men justice despite the quality of the films. The only characters that get a real arc are Wolverine and...Magneto, and only if you count First Class, which isn't his film. Everyone else is cookie cutter, Jean Sort of gets one, sort of, but only in relation to Wolverine.

He personally neutered Cyclops, Storm, Iceman, Nightcrawler, Professor X, Colossus, Sabertooth, and a host of others. By leaving he allowed Angel, Calypso, Juggernaut, Shadowcat, etc. to all be shite on as well.

Vaughn fixed most of this, and I don't know the reason for his departure, but now we're going to get a movie soaked in Singer;s devaluation of characters outside of Wolverine. Oh boy. Who is a great character, and he's done some good cinematic things with, but he still the only completely fleshed out character.

And I'll be honest, I love the Avengers just as much as X-Men, but the X-Men often had the more meaningful stories and great characters behind them and we haven't seen any of them.

My reaction to Singer has less to do with his ability to direct and more to do with the world he's created. It's a disservice to the X-Men, and UNLESS they fix it with a time wipe in this film, bring Cylops back with a new actor, fix the focus on Wolverine, and build some credible story lines, it's not going to be very good for an X-Men story. This arc should have been TWO movies anyways, and at least to make it the best it can be.

If he destroys his own world in this film, I'll have hope. It's the right thing to do. Jackman can't play Wolverine for much longer. If he doesn't, and especially if he affects Vaughn's contribution, then all of the above will be confirmed.

I think most average viewers don't realize that the source material(comics) isn't "Wolverine and his X-pals".

Everyone is missing out on so much with Singer focusing on Wolverine and misusing so much of the other characters.

HELL YES.

Apocalypse is the Thanos of the X-MEN.

I've been wanting Apocalypse on screen since I was a kid.

To be fair, it does BECOME that during the temporary death of PX and the fall of Cyclops. But that Wolverine is much different than the screen Wolverine.

Yup. Storm is a GODDESS, not juts a lightning rod. Iceman is one of the most powerful human-mutants on the planet, he's also clearly the funniest X-Man who's been turned into an emo-snot. Shadowcat is maybe the most interesting X-Man of all time, and that's including Wolverine. Cyclops' arc is Shakespearean in nature. Nightcrawler? Gambit (why he's been completely ignored is beyond me, and I'm not counting Riggins).

And we never got Sinister, more so than Magneto, one of the most interesting X-Villains there is, directly related to the overall idea of "difference" that permeates the entire X-Universe.

Yeah. Wolverine is by far the most popular so that's what you will get for the most part. As for those saying his two x-men movies were two of the best comic movies ever.....really? I don't think they are bad movies by any means. I enjoy them, but they aren't close to being two of the best ever.

I remember him briefly from the cartoons, what was his deal? He seemed almost like a demon or something. I never read the comics much but wasn't Rogue really fricking powerful in the comics, I remember she could fly in the cartoon.

He views genetic mutation as an art and seeks to remake the world in his image.

One of the most powerful, her super strength and flight come from he sucking the power (and almost life) from Ms. Marvel early on in her mutant career.

Fireworks. She shoots fireworks. She came out in the 90's X-Men series which was Vol. 3 I believe.

Precisely, better known as Kitty Pryde. Then Shadowcat. Then Kitty Pryde again. Then Shadowcat again.

I read a few issues of that, I think it was called Generation X or something, it was mostly teenage mutants, it kind of sucked.

I really wish they just rebooted it completely with First Class. I'll hold off judgement until the final product, but I still think that would have been the best direction for the franchise.

A genius, superhuman who made himself powerful, so he's technically not a mutant. He sometimes kills mutants to take their powers through genetic manipulation. He clones himself, uses science mixed with mutations to wreak havock on the X-Men.

And he does it while being a pretentious douche, he's kind of fun and doesn't take the world seriously.

Gen-X was post-Jubilee actually, it came about because Jubilee kind of sucked, but they wanted a grundgy teenage vibe.

Many of the Gen-Xers were much better, including Chamber who was around for a long time.

there's gotta be a way to fix that. maybe by changing the past in DOFP, they reboot the timeline, X3 doesn't happen, and Scott lives. at least that's what I'm hoping for.

I'd have hope then, but Singer's treatment of Cyclops doesn't make me think that's likely at all.

I agree that the main issue here is that with Singer the studio is trying to shoehorn in the old cast into what otherwise looked like a promising franchise that stood on its own in First Class.

But I thought Singer made two very good X-Men movies. The overexposure of the Wolverine character wasn't really his fault.

You have to remember that Singer made his films right at the beginning of the comic book film boom. In fact, how well-made his first film was in terms of storytelling and handling an ensemble cast of characters probably lead to other studios seeing that these properties could be translated to film properly.
