Yeah, couldn't have anything to do with the fact that he's never scored a 70% or higher on the T-Meter and almost all of his films are rotten on it.

Granted I did have no idea he was in any way affiliated with BvS.

I agree with him thou. There's no doubt it's having a major impact on films these days. When I was growing up (90's) most people cared very little about a critics opinion.

That's the odd part. No one cares about the "opinion"... a movie gets judged on a single aggregated piece of info.

Well you only heard 4 critics opnions at the time: Gene Siskel, Roger Ebert, Gene Shalit, and your guy from the local paper. You know these people and when to dismiss their opinions. A bit harder unless you have a specific reason like 2016 Ghostbusters to totally dismiss the T-Meter.

Very true, and some don't even understand how that score works. Just the other day some of my coworkers were discussing RT, they kept saying this movie got an "A" (90% score) so it must be really great

I didn't know this but it's probably the least surprising information I've heard in awhile.

I do put quite a bit of weight into a tomato score.

Let's get real here, it's expensive to go to the theater now. So I don't think anybody should have a problem with folks scouring the tomatoes and seeing what the best bang for their buck is.

No, the cloud happened when the movie started.

He's not totally wrong. BvS is a bad example though.

The general public aren't going to research how a Tomato rating is made. On my movie theater app, it just shows tomatoes and splats. So going by that, they'll see, "Good, bad, good, good, bad, bad, bad..."

This is why Netflix going to the thumbs up/down sucks. There's a big difference between a 2 1/4 stars and zero stars movie.

I fully agree with him. RT is the worst thing to happen to movies since the Protestants' hatred of nudity.

So he's upset that people decide not to pay to go see a shitty movie anymore. I'm so sorry Mr. Ratner you can't put together a good trailer and fool folks into paying hard earned money for crap anymore. How about you try to make better movies.

The times Rotten Tomatoes is wrong is the outlier. Not the other way around. Yes they have some that are good but got a low score. Hell Step Brothers is my favorite comedy and it got 50%. But that is literally 5% of the time where I don't agree. Most of they time RT is pretty damn accurate. And when it's not word of mouth will still keep it out there.

BVS and Suicide Squad should have been lower than what RT had them at for those two pieces of crap. Get that bull out of here.

as a parent of three young kids, its rare that my wife and i get a chance to go to the movies or even have time to rent one on appletv and watch it

so when we do decide we're going to check out a movie we go off of friends' recommendations and we look at the rotten tomatoes scores that the movie has

alot of times before picking a movie ill search it on this board and see what the MTV Board has said about it, but a lot of times rotten tomatoes does come into play

last night we were trying to decide between Passengers and Nocturnal Animals

My wife didnt feel like watching a Sci Fi movie so we picked Nocturnal Animals, but one of the reasons was also the fact that Nocturnal Animals had a much higher RT score

i know that Nocturnal Animals is very different from Passengers, but the fact is that the RT score did come into play and continues to come into play when choosing a movie because we have such little time to watch adult movies, but I've seen Trolls like 40 times in the past 3 weeks

People don't want to watch shitty movies. Aggregate sites steer people clear of shite movies.

Speaking generally.

There should be a website geared towards pointing out great movies that got less than a 50% on Rotten Tomatoes

Same here. It's the only reason to use it. Using that as a basis on whether or not a movie is good or not is not a good idea. You should get your own opinion of the film, but use RT as judgement on whether you should go or wait for red box.

I watched Passengers despite the bad reviews and thought it was pretty solid. Iron Fist supposedly has a 16% on RT, it's definitely much better than that. I'll stick to reviewers that aren't click and quote whores. I've found IMDB to be a pretty reliable resource once you find how the scores compare to your taste. For me anything above a 6.5 is usually worth watching, anything below 6 and you either need to like the niche audience the movie is targeting or give it a hard pass.
