Filmmaker Brad Bird, who’s been hard at work on Disney’s “Tomorrowland,” has confirmed his next project will be the sequel to his 2004 blockbuster “The Incredibles.”
Although he announced just last month that he’d begun work on the screenplay, Bird told Collider he already has “a bunch of pages.”
“I had a lot of ideas for the original ‘Incredibles’ that I didn’t get a chance to use, that I like,” he said. “I have ideas that I wanted to pursue a little bit and there wasn’t enough time in ‘Incredibles.’ There are new ideas I have, and I think there are enough of those together to make an interesting movie. I’m just focusing on getting ‘Tomorrowland’ out into the world and playing with the ‘Incredibles’ sandbox again.”

I think it's because Tomorrowland was too ambitious and probably won't do well.

and I'm still convinced that he'll end up doing a star wars film down the road.

I love Brad Bird and he's as close to a guy who can do no wrong in my eyes, but... I don't see the point. Was there any really any story left to tell?
I feel this is him going to a safe place after the disaster of 1906.

I feel like he could in several directions involving The Incredibles..
really I just want Disney to keep him close, so when Marvel gets the rights back to F4 they can get him to do it
(if they allow at least Wheadonesque control)

Sure there is. It's a family of with superpowers who just made the public trust superheroes again.
And even more, there is no back story or comics to go off of, so he can create any story he wants. That could be a bad thing, but in his hands, I think it's a great thing.

So that means no John Carter any time soon.

I for one look forward to it. Maybe more then any of his films the Incredibles touches on what makes Brad Bird a great director. Thrilling action and family ties. This or Iron Giant 2 is sort of the best we can ever hope for... and that is nothing to sneer at.

I'm the Underminer!! Wonder if that'll be canon. Eitherway, I'm in.

There is a comic series that expands on the canon of the movie. I don't know much about it, but possible story points could be taken from that.
