It's classic, but doesn't hold up like I thought. Still a solid movie

I saw it before my snobbish days, but I hated it. Wonder if I watched it now how I'd feel about it.

It's slow and more of a noir detective story than a fast paced action thriller. And it actually holds up fantastically. I don't what that other guy is talking about. Far better than the star wars films held up.

One of the most entertaining movies with Harrison Ford in it, which is saying a lot.

I think it's the best sci-fi movie ever made. Aesthetically, I still think of it as one of the best looking movies I've seen.

it holds up exceptionally well , esp the effects ... movie's 30 years old ... (and why does everything have to be an action film to hold someone's attention?)

but do watch the director's cut without the voice-over ...

Exactly, it's much more LA Confidential than Star Wars. It just so happens to be in a sci-if setting, which makes it all the more impressive what Scott pulled off. The effects still hold up and the casting is perfect. It's a must watch for any movie buff.

While your at it just go all in on early Ridley Scott and do an Alien, Blade Runner back to back.

it's a great movie, but generally when someone tries to watch a 30 year old classic, it never seems to live up to the hype for that person. hope you enjoy it, but you may have missed the train

I fell asleep in the first 20 minutes. I'm a huge sci-fi buff and I didn't care for it.

I've tried like hell to get through this movie the last few nights. I imagine I would have loved it when it came out in the early 80's, but it is hard to watch for the first time in 2016.

Honestly, I was disappointed (and young) when it came out. I wanted Han Solo. Now it's one of my favorite movies. The "tears in the rain" scene is just nearly perfect (OK, the doves are a bit obvious and the Vangelis is dated; perfect otherwise).

I watched it yesterday for the first time in a long time. They have the theatrical version on Netflix. I think that I had only seen the director's cut before. It has a lot more atmosphere than I remember. I mean that's the aspect of the film that stands out the most to me. A lot of style. The whole film noir thing going on. A little bit of philosophy of what it really means to be human and/or alive. Where it maybe lacks is that it isn't particlarly interesting as a detective story or mystery. It probably doesn't need too much of that to still be a very good movie though.

I hate that I missed this thread when it was fresh. Blade Runner is my favorite film.

The Final Cut is the way to go - minor fixes to the Director's Cut. I have the ultimate edition and I only watch the Final Cut now.

It remains the greatest "in camera" special effects film of all time. Because of CGI, there is no motivation to exceed it. And because of this, it is a believable world that is worth revisiting.

Harrison Ford actually lived in Deckard's apartment during filming. Virtually everything had to be constructed, either in miniature or full-size and existed in the real world. The cityscape is a metal cutout to give it more substance and real shadow, unlike a matte would.

Ridley was so young when he did this, too.
