Saw a trailer for this and thought it looked cool. I loved seeing Life of Pi in theaters b/c it was visually stunning. Heard Ang Lee filmed this movie in some revolutionary way(can't remember how). Anyway see it's releasing this week and decide to check out Rotten Tomatoes and it's at 43%. That's pretty bad.
Has anyone seen this? I think I'm gonna pass b/c of the shitty RT score. Guess I'll try to find something else to watch this weekend.

I was looking forward to seeing it. But it is really getting some rough reviews.

He filmed it with some camera that is basically ridiculously sharp and high frame rate

Most reviews have said it's too jarring and basically makes it look like a soap opera.

I can deal with the soap opera effect as long as the story is good, but the reviews don't make it sound like the story is done well either. Maybe I'll wait someone here to check it out first.

if the story sounds compelling, check out the book. its incredibly well done and relatively manageable. compulsive read. I read it one sitting.

I thought the movie was terrible, honestly. One of the most inauthentic scripts I've ever seen. If the writer/director thinks that's how people in Texas act and talk, he's living in a different world (which he is, I'm sure). The movie had nothing of substance to offer. Bad, all the way around.

I remember when this was one to watch as an Oscar contender

It was one of the better trailers I've seen in a while. I'll probably pass on it.

Yet again someone not from the south or even from America making a Shitty unrealistic portrayal of its culture and inhabitants.

I've gotten to where if it's not Billy Bob or Duvall doing a movie in the south I just expect it to be horrendous.

Also, this movie was filmed at 120 fps...so be warned. The battle scenes are going to look like absolute shite. Way way way too sharp and non cinematic. It will look like a bad home movie.

You don't need a special camera for that

It was filmed in 120 fps, which is retarded seeing how only 6 theaters in the world are capable of showing 120 fps

Other capable theaters are showing it in 60 fps and the rest are in normal 24 fps

Idk what the hell this director was thinking

It looks cheesy AF. When I saw the trailer for the first time I honestly thought it was one of those low budget conservative propaganda movies.

The book was a pretty fascinating commentary on our culture of honoring military heroes at sporting events. Worth a read.

When I first saw the preview around six months ago I thought it was a PSA for some kind of military recruitment. As a preview, it looked OK I just don't see how that holds up over 2 hours. Didn't know about a book but I'll give it a try instead.

I had heard of the book and never wanted do read it. The title name alone, "Billy Lynn" sounds like some bad, 60's post modern novel that the author was trying to recreate in 21st century.

It's one if those novels that ivy League elitist say is the funniest thing ever written because it makes fun of southern/Texas culture, or actually what they like to think is southern culture. Of course having never even been there. When in actuality, it's probably a mildly amusing, OK novel and a bad film adaptation by a Chinese guy.

It's pretty much making fun of American culture. Dallas, America's team.

That's funny, I thought it was going to be "gung ho guy sees the liberal light over 2 hours"

sounds like it is not worth bothering with
