He agrees with PJ O'Rourke a good bit and hes a right leaning Libertarian

I will admit I don't know everything about the man, but it's painfully obvious from his show that he hates 99.9% of Repubs and conservative ideology.

However, I still find him funny. He does distinguish between Republicans(ie, the ones in power) and people with conservative beliefs

I hope everybody's smart enough to be able to do this.
I will admit, I used to watch his show quite often when I had HBO. He would make me laugh 50% of the time and piss me off the other 50%.

That's it right there. It's not that he has his tastes and his view of the world, it's that he's dismissive of what others enjoy or believe in. So it's not, "I'm not really a baseball fan.", it's a dismissive statement and an eye roll that lets you know that you're beneath him for enjoying baseball.
But heaven forbid someone should be dismissive to George Carlin or Hugh Hefner or one of his other pop culture heroes.
The guy is just a tool.

He could not talk about anything religious for an hour and you would still think he is a pompous asshat. He pushes his atheism just as much as he makes fun of people for doing with their religious beliefs.
