If we want to play that game, then let's go with the series finale of MASH. 106 million people tuned in to watch in the U.S. alone. Which, at that time, was just over 45% of the population.

Back when there were only four or five television stations, ratings for TV programs were much higher than they are now. Today there are a lot more channels with a lot more variety. So naturally ratings are no where near as high as they were even twenty years ago.

You know people are streaming this, right? That's not going to be reflected in archaic, 20th Century statistics like "ratings" right?

"Who Shot J.R.?" was a big deal - everything that everyone says, does or thinks about GoT is a big deal - from a phenomenon standpoint, a show with a big following from the 3 networks plus PBS days having a big following and a show competing with dozens, if not hundreds of other products at the same time is like comparing apples to plutonium.

GoT has a fraction of the viewers that you have for Super Bowls and NFL playoff games.

Live sporting events are just that - live "events" - not scripted programs that spawn millions of fans speculating over this and that. I'll grant you that this is the best analogy, though, NFL football vs GoT - where fans start obsession from the day after the Superbowl about offseason moves of their team, the draft, summer training, pre-season, final roster decisions and then the season itself. It also build in intensity as GoT does through the season, culminating with the playoffs and Superbowl.

It's higher than 10 million. Plus GoT is far and away the most pirated TV show in the world since most people don't have or can't get HBO (or it's super expensive for where they live).

Get over it. GoT has a same day streaming audience of 6 to 8 Million.

There has been nothing - television wise - to compare with GoT, period.

That's what you said. Now you're narrowing it down to modern television series that do not include events or basically anything that destroys your argument.

GoT isn't the biggest TV thing ever. It's not even the biggest series ever. Enjoy it for what it is.

Think about what you're saying. Seriously.

Only a hodor would say that. Get it? Because if you don't read these particular books you must be a functional retard?

Oh and one more thing. It was so annoying when the show moved slowly and everything took forever to payoff and now the show is shite because there's mega payoff's every episode.

I'm sorry you don't have anyone to talk with about The Mindy Project. I'm sure things will pick up.

Game of Thrones had a bigger following and more buzz. BB had more neckbeards and annoying frickers constantly calling it the goat.

Breaking Bad didn't really catch on until midway through the third season. It struggled to get a 1.0 rating for most of its run. That's with 95% of the country having AMC. GoT gets higher ratings with much less people able to watch it (legally at least).

I can talk to you about GoT all day. It's not that good.

Vince Gilligan can tell a story better than Martin and is even better behind the camera than anyone at HBO.

Sorry you can't watch a show without bewbs.

No one was trying to break onto the set of Breaking Bad to find out what Walt was up to in season four.

HBO and the producers of Game of Thrones have been battling spoilers and nosy fans during filming for the last three or four seasons now.

This is because by the large majority, GoT fans are a buncha nerds

Where is this 10mil number coming from.

Pretty sure if you count live HBO and live streams it was like 18 mil last episode.

And that doesn't count any dVR watches either, nor pirate watches.

And the frick is someone talking Super Bowl numbers in this thread.

The answer to the question, considering GOT is on a pay site for TV, is the biggest TV show ever.

BB is great. So is The Wire. Both don't compare to the GOT numbers.

GOT is bigger ratings wise than The Sopranos.
