Even Heisenberg has to bend the knee to GoT.

I would argue that GoT has gotten more buzz than any television show since we moved past only having 3 networks

The only TV show that I can remember having a bigger online following than Game of Thrones is LOST. I would also say that The Walking Dead is much more popular than Breaking Bad ever was. The Walking Dead regularly beats Sunday Night Football in the 18-49 demo which is unfathomable for a cable TV show.

Yeah, LOST is the only show in recent memory that had such a buzz among a wide cross-section of people

Maybe Seinfeld and Friends in their heydays (Must See TV Thursdays)

One could definitely argue that Breaking Bad is of a higher quality. But Game of Thrones is without a doubt bigger in terms of fan support. No one was trying to break onto the set of Breaking Bad to find out what Walt was up to in season four.

HBO and the producers of Game of Thrones have been battling spoilers and nosy fans during filming for the last three or four seasons now.

The Walking Dead despite it's decline in quality still kills it in ratings

There has been nothing - television wise - to compare with GoT, period.

It is a separate category now, equivalent to Star Wars in 1977.

(ETA: Of course we've already seen it, but now the push will be by all the content producers to make "the next" GoT. This will dilute even GoT over time as we get a 2- or 3-season Dunk and Egg at some point, probably by HBO - that would be a shite ton cheaper than GoT - probably 1/4 the cost per episode. It is what it is.)

Everyone and their dog watches GoT. The season premiere was pirated an estimated 90 million times. When in add in those who viewed a pirated stream and those 11M+ who watched it on HBO, it could add up to 110-120M. Now off course some people watched it more than once but each episode was more viewed than the next.

Idk about it being the next GoT, but Westworld is the next big show for HBO. Competent showrunner, a solid 1st season, and a world that can really go anywhere it wants. As long as they don't rush things, which it seems like they aren't, I could see it being successful for some time

Game of Thrones top episode: 10 Million Viewers.
Dallas top episode: 350 Million Viewers, 83 Million in the U.S. alone.

GoT has a fraction of the viewers that you have for Super Bowls and NFL playoff games.

Multiply the GoT viewership by 17 and you have the number of people who watched Atlanta choke in the Super Bowl (which is how it should be).

GOT unfortunately.

Inferior show with an insufferable fan base.
