Saving Private Ryan......my jaw was literally on the floor, a knot in my stomach, and a tear in my eye. I felt very small compared to the generation that came before me. When a freakin movie can do that to you....it is something special

Inglourious Basterds. Christoph Waltz was terrific in that whole scene

Both the original and TFA have better openings. The opening shot of the original is one of the most brilliant in cinematic history.

Not sure it counts , but the opening montage in Rocky III is amazing. It sets up the movie perfectly, with Eye of the Tiger, Rocky becomg a superstar, and Clubber training in the gym.

While early in the movie, it's not the opening scene.

Correct.

The best purely opening scene is Scream - and it isn't even close. There aren't even any credits. It goes straight into a beautifully-paced, chilling montage of horror with one of the biggest twists I've ever seen in any movie.

The credits or the Comedian getting his arse kicked? They're both awesome but for very different reasons.
