I am partial to The Longest Day. Filmed in B&W, great cast, and "attempts" to bring other side of D DAY in the film.

My personal favorites are The Quiet Man, McClintock, and Hellfighters. I know they are not considered his best films, but Maureen O'Hara and John Wayne has chemistry.

Searchers is a great movie - most critics would say that.

But it's just not my favorite.

I think his best is Rio Bravo then True Grit. I just love the original.

Toss up between The Searchers and Liberty Valance. Love both of those movies and love me some westerns, but not a huge John Wayne fan though. The original True Grit is pretty overrated IMO.

True Grit for me. Followed closely by Mclintock and She Wore a Yellow Ribbon.

I always liked The Horse Soldiers because part of it is set in Louisiana. I find the searchers to be drawn out. Other favorites are Rio Bravo, The Alamo, Sons of Katy Elder, awe hell I like all of them... Even the fighting Seabees.

True Grit.

They did a pretty good job with the remake though.

As far his Westerns go I like The Sons of Katie Elder. But I still go with Longest Day, I'm guessing it's that I like Military movies.
