Hard to argue with your top 5. I would give consideration to The Natural and Eight Men Out.
Definitely. I'm surprised they're not on everyone's list.

61*. With Thomas Jane and Barry pepper was a pretty good ball movie.

My 2 cents:
1. Bull Durham - just a great movie on many levels
2. A League of their own (it was fantastic..plus I like WW2 era films)
3. Field of Dreams - Costner makes my list twice
4. The Bad News Bears - Seemed like every kid of the 70s saw this movie.
5. Moneyball - fascinating out of the box take on how to win with less.
There were a few mentioned I need to go back and watch like Sandlot, Major League and Eight Men Out.
The Natural was a little dark but I saw it several times.

For me in no order: major league, bad news bears, moneyball, league or their own, the natural.
the Scout, Mr. Baseball, Field of Dreams, Mr. 3000 are my honorable mention.
I will also say - I don’t like bull Durham. I should like it. It has everything I like. But I don’t. The dialogue is just too over the top. It’s like if Aaron sorkin wrote a baseball movie. It is just so snappy and quick it lands on my ear as forced and obnoxious.

2 old baseball comedies I enjoyed watching as a kid.
It Happens Every Spring, 1949, with Ray Miland
Kill the Umpire, 1950, starring Willian Bendix

Field of Dreams
The Sandlot
A League of Their Own (Honestly probably second if it wasn't for The Sandlot lining up with my age group when it came out)
The Natural

Best thing Billy Crystal ever did. Great homage to legends Roger Maris and Mickey Mantle -- in a most legendary year of 1961.
Turning old Tiger Stadium into "Yankee Stadium" with CGI was amazing.
The scripted convos were spot on.
Thomas Jane (as Mickey Mantle) had to actually learn Mantle's subtle physical mannerisms. (Crystal was a stickler for detail). The pose for the DVD cover is the exact same as famous photo.
Maris, Mantle and Bob Cerf actually shared that apartment in Queens -- and yes, actually had to discuss whether they'd allow The Mick to bunk with them (because they found his usual p*ssy-hounding too disruptive).

I haven’t seen The Rookie mentioned yet.
Always enjoyed that one.

a list without "the natural" is not a legit list.

I'm in the minority, but I hated the Natural. Plot made no sense to me because somebody famous cannot come back as an unknown. Plus, he should have struck out at the end like the book. Whole thing seemed hokey, and it didn't help that I saw it in a theater with squealing girls.
Best are Fields of Dreams and Bull Durham, with Major League in third. Fourth has a lot of options already mentioned, but I will add Fear Strikes Out.
