Watched it, but am at a bar with friends right now, but I doubt Zaheer is finished. He can still easily lead the Red Lotus from prison through the Spirit World. I'm expecting several Silence of the Lambs scenes between him and Korra next season before he escapes near the end of the season.

Holy frick.

Amazing finale.

Most action and violence for the series yet. Encapsulating the Red Lotus combustion chick's head was intense.

And the fight sequence with flying had a really amazing take on an air battle. Do you think Zaheer could only now fly because his lover had just died and he no longer had any earthly ties?

I loved how the new enemies morphed into her past enemies when she was given the poison.

I have to admit I cried at the end, seeing Korra in the wheelchair and the ceremony. Every freaking finale for this show, whether Ang or Korra...always leaves me in tears.

One nit-picky thing: Why can someone not metal bend platinum, but metal bend a liquid metal?

Also, correct me if I'm wrong, but Bolin didn't create lava, he only could control the lava when he lava-bended right? Do you think he and Mako could truly lava bend if they joined forces? One with the fire and one with the rock? And, when did Mako have the capacity for electrocution? Does anyone remember the last time he used that?

One of the most intense season finales I've watched. I honestly can't wait for season 4.

Here's some Book 4 News and Rumors
LINK
The most interesting ones

Book 4 will be 13 episodes long.

Given that Book 1 focused on Korra learning Airbending, Book 2 on the Water Tribes conflict, and Book 3 on the Earth Kindgom, it is likely Book 4 brings us to the Fire Nation and current Fire Lord, Zuko’s daughter.

Korra and Katara have a scene together.

Book 4 is rumored to have a January 2015 release based on the fact that this is when the Book 3 Artbook comes out, and the previous Artbooks have had releases timed approximately with the next season. Beyond this grasping-at-straws connection, January seems like a reasonable release time considering how far along production is and the fact that online distribution eliminates Nick’s scheduling issues.

Bryke have stated that 2014 was Korra’s last big SDCC panel, meaning that Book 4 will be released before summer of next year. This further supports the Q1 2015 rumor, as well as the likelihood of us getting our first look at Book 4 at NYCC this year, October 9th-12th.

Well, watched the finale last Friday, and I enjoyed it immensely. Tenzin didn't die like I and many others predicted (the Facebook page was a deliberate troll attempt), but they managed to be still pretty damn brutal in the episode, especially with Combustion Woman's death.

Zaheer is the best villain in the franchise, and it really needed an airbending villain. I do like how all the villains of the franchise very much correspond with their element:

Fire is the element of power, and is a destructive force. Ozai and Azula gain power through mindless destruction that consumes everything.
Earth is the element of substance and control. Both Long Feng and the Earth Queen gain power through controlling their people through corrupt and unethical methods.
Water is the element of change and manipulation. Amon, Tarrlok, and Unalaq relied mostly on manipulation to gain power.
Air is the element of freedom. Zaheer doesn't want power, he wants to completely destroy any earthly attachments. He wants anarchy.

But Korra was pretty fricked up at the end of this, and am really curious how this goes into the next season. Really hoping for the Korrasami ship (no way it will happen due to parents flipping their shite), and really liked the ending with Jinora getting her tattoos.

Now time for a Crackpot theory: the metalbender that saves Korra's father is not only a member of the Red Lotus, but is Zaheer's daughter. They really went out of their way to introduce this character, and insisted on going with them to rescue Korra. When they introduce her, if you listen closely, you can here the Red Lotus theme being played subtly. Plus they have very subtle facial similarities, particularly in the eyes:

I'm guessing she'll be one of the surprise Red Lotus members, and that Zaheer is still going to be orchestrating his chaotic plans from prison through the Spirit World. Then like 2/3rds through the season, he's busted out again for one final showdown with Korra.

1) Change
2) Earth
3) Fire
4) Spirits
5) Air
6) Water

Good finale, not as dark as many here were predicting. Could have used more of Mako and Bolin's grandmother. She's hilarious.

Here's the clip when Kuvira introduces herself. Clearly the Red Lotus theme is there when you listen closely. Zaheer and P'li's backstory has been mentioned briefly, but I don't think it's been fleshed out enough, and I think Zaheer's daughter is a way to do it: LINK

Oh my god just finished. Man they fricked Korra up something bad.

That "Classic Bolin" line had me in stitches

This was stated in the show.

They don't give too much detail on this other than saying, "Platinum is too pure of a metal, not even Toph herself could bend it."

quote:

Also, correct me if I'm wrong, but Bolin didn't create lava, he only could control the lava when he lava-bended right?

You're right. They never showed him creating it, only manipulating it.

He has always been able to do that. In the Book of Air, he got a job at a power plant where he was using lightning to produce power for Republic City.

I have a few gripes with the finale:

First, is how Zaheer goes from a non bender to damn near an airbending master (who can do something that only 1 other airbender in history has been able to do) in the matter of months.

Second, is how Zaheer couldn't take on Tenzen who was whipping his arse until he had numbers on his side with the rest of the Red Lotus yet he could take Korra on in the Avatar state.

Third, is how they take Korra from the previous season who took down Unalaq and Vaatu and make her struggle to fight Zaheer. Aang was a 12 year old boy fighting Fire Lord Ozai with Sozen's Comet making him exponentially more powerful without the Avatar state and still didn't look as weak as Korra did fighting Zaheer. Although this I can somewhat let go of since she was poisoned.

Fourth, speaking of the poison, how do they even know it is going to work. They develop a poison that is supposed to activate the Avatar state with only having one person in the world to test it on yet they obviously haven't been able to test it and it just works perfectly.

Finally, Korra goes into Avatar state due to the poison and rips the chains from the earth. Why didn't she just do this to begin with before they hit her with the poison?

As far as the action and intensity the finale was great. Especially having Korra dragged down as low as she can go, reminds me of Aang after he was shot with lightning from Azula. Ready to see her transformation next season along with the Air Nomads roaming the world assisting with the restoring of balance.

Oh and the woman that saved Korra's dad was definitely pushed too hard just to be some character that fades off after this episode.

He studied the Air Nomads all his life and was a strong follower in Guru Laghima. He also had only one attachment to the world and she died.

Kind of hard to fight someone who is flying and Korra was quickly dying. She would have died had Suyin not saved her.

You're thinking too much
Plus I believe the poison was mercury

Alternate ending for Season 3: LINK

But one thing that I think they really got right this season is Korra's character. Yeah, she's still hotheaded, but she's clearly learned from her past mistakes. Compare her reaction when Amon and then Zaheer was threatening to wipe out the Air Nomads. Her only thought was to go in and kick arse without any thought of ramifications, and I think she'd do the same with Zaheer if she were still the same character. She thought this one through a bit more, and to her own peril. I'm really curious where they take her character next season, since I think she'll be terrified whenever they finally ask her to remove Zaheer's bending, and don't think she'll have the spiritual strength to do it initially at least.

As for my favorite characters now:

Franchise:
1) Zuko
2) Varrick
3) Iroh
4) Toph
5) Tenzin

Series:
1) Varrick
2) Tenzin
3) Korra
4) Bolin
5) Zaheer

A shame there will only be 1 more season. One of the few shows I can stand with the kids.

Tenzin is the son of Avatar Aang, studied under Aang his entire life and could never enter the spirit world outside of the portal. Studying and practicing these things are 2 different things. He couldn't even put airbending techniques to use until a few months prior.

I get that she was dying, but he had full mastery and complete control over a newly acquired technique against the Avatar who can fly as well using fire bending or air bending herself.

I figured as much, but then when it comes to how metal bending works and what elements they can easily bend, they never really say what determines a metal's ability to be bent other than saying a metal as pure as platinum being unbendable. Since mercury is further down the periodic chart than platinum, I'm assuming they are referring to a metals hardness.

Recently saw an interview with the creators, and they said he'd been studying airbending techniques his entire life, and his movements were mostly based on parkour rather than the usual Ba Gua for airbenders. He was using completely different bending principles than Tenzin and the other airbenders.

I get the fact that he's been studying his whole life, the thing is studying and doing to where you can master the skill are 2 different things. He wasn't a bender, which would be the equivalent of a water bender studying air bending techniques. You can study all you want but if you can't actually practice then how are you supposed to master something.

He couldn't even practice to get a feel for things he could run through the motions (though he wouldn't know if he was performing it correctly), but the actual bending part of it he could never feel that until Harmonic Convergence.

Tenzen has been airbending for 40 years and this guy is master level in entering the spirit world and in airbending in a minute fraction of that time.

Don't get me wrong, I like Zaheer, he's a great character but the show just did a crappy job with the "bam here's the villain and he's an airbending master thanks to harmonic convergence!" Probably the biggest gripe I have about the season which I still thought was the best so far for Korra's development.

They built up the fight between Aang and Ozai so much in the first series and Ozai stood absolutely no chance against Aang in the Avatar state and he was a fire bender of immense power (supercharged by the comet as well) with years upon years of training.

Then you have Amon who was a water bending prodigy that was so powerful he could blood bend without a full moon.

They follow that up with Unaloq who was a water bending master that gained the power of Vaatu whom was Rava's equal.

Finally they give us Zaheer who pretty much read books his whole life about air bending, couldn't practice it then all of the sudden was on par with the Tenzen. Just seemed a bit of "Batman" reasoning to me.

Maybe next season they can do some back story to possibly clear this up and whatnot but it will be tough to make it so it doesn't feel like a stretch in comparison to the other villains. Their level of power just seemed to be more reasonable to their training and backstory. Possibly referencing the bending principles Zaheeer was using to those of the original masters like when Aang and Zuko sought out the dragons and Toph learning from the badger-moles.

An image of Book IV has been released:

Yeah, pretty safe assumption Kuvira is the main antagonist of the final season. Really hope she's revealed to have powers that rival Magneto. Still think she's Zaheer's and Combustion Woman's daughter.
