And Pocahontas and Fern Gully.

I think it was someone on here, months ago who made the most cogent point I've ever read about Avatar. It was something to the effect of:
quote:

If Avatar is the top-grossing movie of all time, why is it that you've never met anyone who can name three characters or quote a single line from the film?

This is the only way 3D will make a comeback. I loved it when it first came out but the glasses and lack of content anywhere made it not super worth it.

The best thing was ESPN having a 3D channel for a minute. I had the LSU vs aTm game saved on my DVR for a year or two to watch every once in awhile and that was very cool.

Can someone explain how 3D glass free will work.

It works really well on the New Nintendo 3DS systems so it's only a matter of time before they use the same or similar tech on TVs and in theaters.

Tells you everything you need to know about the film.

Is there any way to explain how sports looks in 3D? I've been wondering about that ever since I first heard of it and just can't comprehend what the difference would be.

When I saw it, I remember thinking - "If this is where CGI is going, then the Warcraft movie is going to be EPIC."

It was 2009, and little did I know what was coming...

Don't forget Edgar Rice Burroughs. Avatar is the basic theme to multiple ERB series. John Carter, Pellucidar, Carson of Venus... An Earth man finds himself in a new world and turns out to be the only person who can unite that world's warring factions against a singular cause.

The only movie I've seen where I was blown away by 3D and thought it was worth the extra money was Tron: Legacy

Tron sounds like an awesome movie to see in 3D, wish I'd have done that.

I will say the best 3D experience I've had where I really thought it made a difference was Avatar. Not the best movie in the world, but total experience is enough that no glasses 3D has me intrigued

The biggest difference is really being able to see the separation of players. they look like chess pieces flying across the TV.

So they'll just beam the propaganda directly into our brains. Good to know. I'll be sure to see it on a substandard TV.

Avatar 3 is gonna be projected straight into your brain.
I'm going to start reading more of the comments before posting.

It's ridiculous how everyone acts like Cameron is some shitty director and will make nothing but shitty films going forward. He made a movie with an unoriginal story and unmemorable characters, but it was still expertly directed.

Yes, he's a smug a-hole from all accounts but we need directors like him pushing the boundaries of filmmaking from a technical standpoint.

I've been saying forever that 3D won't take off until they manage to do it without glasses.

Yet 3D movies have now been in theaters making money for how long?

Avatar 2 will never happen. Cameron does this shite to remain relevant

At this point I liken Cameron to a Ponzi Scheme. Everytime he's had to announce a delay, he adds something more ridiculous to the reasoning. "Avatar 2 delayed...Oh its because we're making 2&3 together" ..."Avatar 2 delayed again...Oh we're lining up 3 films to shoot @ once...etc..."

I think he cares more about developing new technologies than anything, that's why he keeps making ridiculous claims in order to keep his funding coming, which is fine by me, he should just stick to tech @ this point and not worry about films anymore.

That's a pretty damn good explanation. Sounds something I need to check out. I know they've had some national championship games at theaters before.

I hope humanity comes back to Pandora and kills Ben Sully and all the Navi and chops all the trees down.

Also I can't believe how stupid Jake was to force the humans to leave Pandora. Sure for the Na'vi this may sound like a good idea, but Jake knows something they don't: nuclear weaponry. All Jake did was doom them, because the humans will come back, only this time they'll just launch a nuke from space to that tree, and the planet is all theirs. Great going Jake, they're all going to be dead in a decade, all because you're a dumbass.

You should read this story. It's a one shot, 3800 word piece. It should basically be the script for the next movie. LINK

I'd give my left eyeball to see a movie in glasses-free 3D.
