Machinist I believe was his best acting job. I loved American Psycho too.

I'm kinda partial to The Machinist and The Fighter, but you really can't pick a wrong movie, unless you say Batman.

+1 on The Machinist.
...great movie and performance...took me a while to get around to watching it...glad I did.

the prestige was the best movie he was in, i don't think it was his best acting job however.

As I do not like him personally, and did not really care for his Batman - I tend to agree. He is, to me, an easily unlikeable person who is spot on as Patrick Bateman.
His work as a child actor was fairly good, too - Empire of the Sun was impressive.
I need to caveat this with - I have not seen all of The Prestige, but I suspect his performance, while lauded, will not surpass his performance in American Psycho.

He was pretty great in The Fighter. I don't think I can rank his American Psycho performance above it.

I've seen American Psyhco, the Batman movies, the Machinist, The Fighter, American Hustle, and the Prestige. Which other ones should I watch?

3:10 to Yuma
Empire of the Sun (he was still a kid when he was in this)

Both American Hustle and The Fighter were better performances than AP. The Machinist is on par with AP.

Meh. He's been in a ton of better movies since then and performed very well. The physical transformation for the Fighter and Machinist was incredible, as was his performance.
American Psycho is cult awesomeness, but it's not movie nirvana like some make it out to be.

Both American Hustle

You do realize that he transformed his body for American Psycho, too, right? Did you see how ripped he was? That's not normal. That's a lot of working out, cardio, and diet control.

Newsies imo is his best work.

nope
If you don't think his performance in American Hustle was better than his performance in American Psycho, I don't know what to tell you. Every little nuance of his character was perfect in American Hustle. He was a great Patrick Bateman, but so much of that movie was made to be campy, that I don't know how you can accurately deny he was better in AH.

I like American Psycho, but he impressed me in the Machinest more.

Bale is physically fit by default, you do realize that, don't you?

No way he walked around like that normally. He was shredded.
