Are white walkers actually shitty fighters?

Did they become complacent due to the lack of weapons that could kill them / stop their weapons?
I mean Sam killed the one basically because he didnt defend himself at all.
Then when Jon killed his, the guy looked like he shite his pants when Longclaw didnt shatter.

When your weapons and body are invincible 99.9% of the time and you have super strength, you don't really need to work on swordsmanship skills.

well, now that they know there are a few weapons out there that can harm them I'm sure they are going to do a better job of protecting themselves in battle.

Obviously they are not open field warriors. They are commanders of HUGE armies of the dead who apparently only jump into the fray when they are bored and mopping up stragglers who are usually 99.9% of the time completely helpless against them.

They have a numbers advantage. Not much else you need when normal weapons cant kill you........for long.
