Are we supposed to be rooting for Daenerys?

Obviously a SPOILER thread, so dont read, if you havent caught up.
In game of thrones, there's the set of character we root for (the starks, jaime, tyrion, etc.) and those we root against (ramsay, walder fray, joffrey, etc.). There's also the set of characters who havent established their alleigance anywhere yet so we have no idea how to feel about them (varys, littlefinger, etc.).
My question is about the dynamic surrounding Daenerys. One one hand, she's beautiful, powerful, has three badass dragons, and seems destined to take the iron throne. On the other hand though, she has shown streaks of cruelty and stupidity that makes us believe that she does not require what it takes to rule the seven kingdoms.
I havent read the books so bookreaders feel free to chime in, but is this uncertainty surrounding Daenerys accidental? Like does GRRM want us to feel somewhat reluctant about Daenerys as queen or has he simply just failed to sell us to her? Are we supposed to be happy whenever there's a victory for her and she acquires dragons or an army or a fleet?
So many people love her yet so many people hate her. Whereas for the starks, i think pretty much everyone is rooting for a happy ending for them and and terrible ending for cersei. Was this dynamic surrounding Daenerys supposed to happen?

I hope not.

She definitely wouldn't be the worst person in the world to take the throne but she never will. If there is a King's Landing at the end, my boring prediction is Jon -- he won't take it out of want but out of a feeling of duty, which we already know he'll sacrifice love for it. I think he'll have lost everything towards the end and will see the throne as another sacrifice.
Martin said that the books would end on a "bittersweet" note, and I think fans will bitch about the ending being predictable -- which Jon as king would be.
"A Targaryen alone in the world is a terrible thing."

I don't think the uncertainty is accidental. At this point it would be a waste if she isn't at least there at the end. Most of the series (book/show) she had no contact with any of the other leads. It brings in more of a conflict cause you have other people you want to see succeed, if she was the only one that would be kind of lame. I personally don't think she will finish the show as Queen. She hasn't really done a great job ruling, but I think she will be by the end of S7. Pretty sure Cersei will bite the dust, and then the final season be a Jon/Dany team up against the White Walkers.

I think GRRM wrote her poorly. I think he intended for us to like her, but her chapters are so boring and her actions so aggravating that a lot of people (myself included) just can't stand her.
If I were to ever re-read the books, I'd just skip the Danny chapters and any Iron Island-centric chapter. You'd miss hardly anything in the process and would enjoy the overall experience more.

In terms of the books, we obviously have no idea who is fated for the throne, if anyone.
There are a few theories out there that Dany will ultimately be a villian.

Honestly, I'd rather Cersei rule in the end over Dany. Hoping she dies in battle with the White Walkers.

She's already a villain in that she ruins otherwise enjoyable reads.

She has flaws, but nothing that'll make me root against her. She has good intentions, but never received any training on how to rule. She was originally supposed to just be a warlord's wife and now she's commanding the largest army in Westeros. It shouldn't be surprising she's going to frick up a bit. However, she has two fantastic advisors now and seems to actually listen to Tyrion.
I think the big question is will she continue to shape into an actual leader or go down the road of her father. As for her going up against Cersi, yeah rooting for Dany in that one

I don't like her. She bores me.

Nah, Cersi is absolutely awful at planning for the future. She refused to reel in her son who caused the Northern rebellion. She fought against Margery and lost countless times. She gave power to a freak religious group which imprisoned her. She was able to kill the entire group at the expense of the death of her last child and a forced alliance between Dany and the Tyrells.

Agree, Cersei is too caught up in being the "Queen" and having power that she doesn't realize all the things she's done are ultimately going to get her killed. I hope it's Jaime that does it.

I never said that Cersei would be good. Just more entertaining than Dany. Aside from when she's not wearing clothing, she's not all that interesting.
