Anyone else still mad about the way How I Met Your Mother ended?

I know it's been a year, but I'm still pissed. They wasted an entire season selling us on Barney and Robin (personally I liked them together although Barnneys best match was Nora) only to break them up in a matter of seconds.

Then, they spend 9 years building up "the mother", casted her brilliantly, and then kill her off all so that Ted ends right back at square one? It's such bullshite.

It was a better ending than you could hope for given the last 3 seasons

Nope but all the bitching I see about most finales nowadays, has given me an appreciation for the "Choose your own ending" situation the Chuck fans found themselves in.

Yes I am.

But Ted is the biggest douche in the history of TV. So he deserves a selfish bitch like Robin.

I thought Barney becoming a father was a pretty fitting end to his character.

I am still pissed that Marshall let Lily go to Italy. IMO she sucks beyond belief.

The last 3 seasons of the show were carried by Barney. Nora was absolutely Barney's best match.

My only real irritation is that it cast a cloud over what was a fairly excellent final season, and that's been almost completely forgotten. The one weekend gimmick revitalized the show, and they turned out their most creative and funniest season since the show's heydey.

But I don't think a bad finale ruins the rest of the show, or even the rest of that season.

Yep. Will probably never watch a single rerun. I just can't enjoy them thinking in the back of my head "she's going to die and this is a bunch of bullshite for nothing."

I got pissed yesterday when I was watching a rerun on FX. Why didn't Barney marry Quinn?

I havent watched any reruns.

And it was only made worse by having The Office end so perfectly the year before.

I just think it's funny when people get caught up in the plot of a sitcom. It was all just a means for comedy. The show wasn't really about Ted meeting their mother, and that was pretty clear from the start. It was just a funny premise to have a show about post college people.

Yes, it was called "Friends." And to avoid having EVERYONE say "oh, this is just a Friends replacement," they came up with this hook and kept going back to it to keep everyone watching.

If they had used that ending after 5-6 seasons, I would have been OK, but many of us who stuck with it for the entire 9 seasons mostly did so to find out who the damn mother was. Then they ran the Ted/Robin thing into the ground until we were over them as a couple, made the mother completely awesome, and then killed the mother to send Ted back to Robin AGAIN.

The non-mother centric episodes could be watchable again, but the ones that advance the Mom plot are just awful now.

Because they were more worried about playing "gotcha!" Than writing character arcs that made a lick of sense

Eta and he should've ended up with Nora

That is an argument to be made for shows like Seinfeld or It's Always Sunny where there is not meant to be any character growth. But HIMYM is a comedy with plenty of dramatic moments. I don't see why a comedy can't be held the similar standards of a drama when it comes to story telling. The plot of this sitcom is part of what drew people to the show.

My feelings exactly. The only thing more insulting than that was how they spent years changing Barney from a cartoon to a real person only to make him turn back into a cartoon at the last second. Pathetic writing.

It was clear that the writers had run out of ideas and written themselves into a corner. They had determined the ending years ago, but kept getting renewed for more seasons. The problem is, in the meantime, they had moved the story forward in such a way that that ending didn't make sense anymore. It was one of the worst TV sitcom endings of all time.

The last 2 seasons (and most importantly, the last episode) completely ruined that series for me.

I agree with everything but the last part. I love the series and have already rewatched it once. I just never watched Season 9. The whole season is a mess, therefore i just dont let it get to me and end it there. Enjoy the rest for what it is. A great source of entertainment.

Yup, I agree with that.

I've never really been that mad at it. The show was never amazing, and I certainly didn't think the finale would do anything to change that.

I think every character in the show essentially got what each one of them deserved.

ETA: Except for Patrice. With what she went through, they should have made her inherent an island kingdom at the end.
