What's the conventional wisdom around here as to the impact of the switch from Clemenza to Pentangeli (apparently the actor that played Clemenza in Part I couldn't come to financial terms for Part II - and also apparently wanted his girlfriend to re-write some of his lines ) So the creators/producers wrote the part out and replaced him with his top lieutenant, Frankie Pentangeli.

The guy who played Clemeza (Castellano) did a great job so it seems like it would have hurt the show. But (IMO anyway), the guy who played Pentangeli (Gazzo) really hit it out of the park. So I think it may have been a net gain.

I'm curious what the board thinks.

I think it's viewed by most as a pretty much seamless tradition.

The general public didn't know that it was intended for Clemenza, so there really wasn't an issue with Pentageli showing up. He was just another great new character (like Hyman Roth).

Today there would be a big stink about it, since we all know way too much about the production of every new movie.

You got me curious. How does the book wrap up that story differently?

They cut the scene from the movie(it is in some cuts), but Michael gets revenge on his xbodyguard. Finds him in the states puts a bomb in his oven.

npr didn't popularize anything about the movie ...
Sarah Vowell's book and the endless promotion of it did nothing to popularize the phrase that gave the book its title?

And you know this how?

is this serious? ... her book (which i'd never heard of) came out in 2000 ... i saw the movies in the early 80s with several friends and we always joked about several lines, one of which was the 'canoli' line ...

The Godfather is an amazing movie but it's sequel is the greatest film ever made.
