Looking for another fantasy series to get into while I wait on winds of winter. Anybody have a review on this series? The ones online mostly say it's a true epic but the characterization isn't great and it can be really confusing
TIA
TIA

It is very good, I liked it a lot better than the GOT books.

It's really good but there is a book in the middle of the series that's tough to get through. Have you read The First Law trilogy by Joe Abercrombie? It's one of my favorites.

Better than GOT? That may be all I need to hear

Nope I'll check it out

Just so you know, I am not as big a fan as everyone else claiming it as the best ever and all. I think he needs to recapture momentum of the earlier installments and right the ship.

Started the first book but didn't finish it. Didn't like the way magic worked

I'm on the 5th book. Characterization is not like got, not a lot of humor or sex or intrigue. There is a huge world and lots of moving parts and connections, I'm a fan but the books are long and it does drag in some parts. Overall would recommend but I have a lot more fantasy to read before I could compare it to anything besides got

I read the first book and it was well written. However, it is not my type of fantasy. I far prefer the Lord of the Rings, Wheel of Time, Sword of Truth traditional type of fantasy with a clear cut hero and a clear villain. I even bought the second book of the Malazan Book of the Fallen but can't bring myself to read it, especially now that is has been a few years since I read the first book in the series.

I also read the first one and didn't continue. I've been told it gets much better but I just didn't give a shite about the characters. (Well, there is one very good character.)
For light reading I'd suggest Rothfuss' Kingkiller Chronicles. If you want something meatier try Scott Bakker's Prince of Nothing. (People think Martn's dark.)

thanks guys. I think I'm gonna try the first one since I already purchased it on iBooks and if I don't like it try sword of truth which I heard is great. Will look into the other suggestions also

I would try Wheel of Time before Sword of Truth. Sword of Truth borrows liberally from Wheel of Time, imo, and has a much weaker finish. Wheel of Time is high fantasy at its best.

I started it about a year and half ago i never finished it
its okay just hard to read because its all over the place

Bleh, Sword of Truth is terrible. Just basically a ripoff of better fantasy mixed with Ayn Rand politics.
Malazan is a divisive work, you'll probably either love it or hate it. The main thing that makes it hard to get into and easy for folks to get lost is that he just throws you into the action and you just find out what is going on as you go, so in many ways you don't completely have a great idea what is going on till book 2 or 3. Malazan is one of my favorite completed series however, and has some of the best worldbuilding of any fantasy with a great cast of characters.
I'd second the love for Joe Abercrombie, he's fantastic. Rothfuss is solid, I'd also recommend Scott Lynch's Lies of Locke Lamora series and Brent Weeks.
Someone mentioned Scott Bakker, and he's decent but I'd read Abercrombie/Rothfuss/Lynch/Weeks before him. Too much author wank on page with boring philosophy in Bakker.
If you are looking for something similar to GOT I'd stay away from Wheel of Time and Sword of Truth as they are completely different in style and tone. Wheel of Time is however a solid series with a terrible books 8-11 and so so ending.

I straight up skipped 7-11 and just read summaries. Started gathering storm and am liking it a lot close to the end. Things are really picking up

im on the 8th book in the malazan series
i read them back to back starting last winter until june
i really enjoyed them but i had to take a break from them
it really is world-building
the story is very intricate and the way the magic works with tapping into warrens and traveling through them and all that threw me off because lord of the rings and GOT were really the only fantasy books i'd read before that (well, and Harry Potter) but you get used to it
There are some really bad arse characters that you cant get enough of and some that you really just want to skip any chapters they're involved in

READ THEM. 2 and 3 are some of my favorites in the series. So at least make it to 3 before passing judgment (1 is actually one of my least favorites). These books are my 2nd favorite sci fi/fantasy series of all time behind Dune 1-6.
This is a pretty good quick description for a do/don't.

Is this about Auburn's collapse against A&M a couple weeks ago?

My god do not do Sword of Truth. It is terrible.
Rothfuss, Lynch, Abercrombie, Sanderson...any of those guys before Sword of Truth.
