Post 9/11 fears and anxieties.

Also, perhaps you should seek out different takes on the zombie genre:

Raising Stony Mayhall (book)
Handling the Undead (book)
Pontypool (movie)

I love zombies like a fat kid loves cake.

Y'all know those awful stick figure family decals that soccer moms have on the back of minivans?

I would SO put one on my car if they would make a stick figure zombie family.

Chill out dude. Obviously you are a zombie/zombie movie fan. Nothing wrong with that. I wasn't being sarcastic in the OP I was asking a genuine question whether or not people feel the same way I do. God forbid that.

It sucks having a good quality show like The Walking Dead on TV. Guess you could just stop watching zombie stuff if you didn't like it. It's not hard to ignore.

I don't watch zombie stuff. I have no problem with there being a good show, I never said the walking dead was bad. Again, I just didn't know if I was alone in that theme getting old. Apparently I wasn't.

It's becoming overkill, but zombies resonate with people and they've become part of the current zeitgeist.

Zombies are a faceless metaphor for most of our current fears; economic fears, the feeling of desperation and the hope for optimism through adversity. They man represent more than one thing for most people.

I hear ya. Makes sense.

I used to piss off my old college room mate when I would suggest that all of the Anne Rice vampire books were just thinly veiled homoerotic porn books.

I think its strange, but I think the recent surge is basically because of Twilight fricking up every other movie monster, and the Zombie is pretty much untouchable to them. I'm in full Zombie fever though.

I may be ignorant here, but where is all the overexposure outside of zombieland, a few video games, and the walking dead?

I've never been into Zombie movies and generally don't like the Horror and Gore genres either, but I am enjoying the Walking Dead. Have you even tried watching it or have you stayed away because the genre in general doesn't appeal to you? You might be surprised.
