Granted I haven't seen The Mummy but I know review are bad. And now I see that the next movie, The Bride of Frankenstein, won't be released until February, 2019. Marvel had 2 movies the first year before waiting a couple of more before IM2. I just think this is a disaster waiting to happen, and I was really looking forward to the series.

They need to put out a movie a year for this to work. I would seriously doubt they ever make a third movie in this franchise. I think even Bride of Frankenstein is iffy at this point.

I hope so, because I do love these characters. But please make them horror films.

There doesn't seem to be any set rhyme or reason when it comes to rationalizing sequels these days.

Studios seem to be looking at the long term success of their new series.

No sequel for last year's Tarzan, but we're getting a Daddy's Home 2.

Good enough for a sequel.

I said this in my Mummy review in the spoiler thread, I thought they played it too much down the middle. They should have gone as a less CGId horror or campier and made it funny. It had moments both ways but never leaned one way or another.

I saw where they attached Depp to play Invisible Man so not sure how that will work out.

You know.. when I first heard they were going to bring back the horror greats and combine them into their own movie world I had hope that filmmakers would appreciate the silence and how it adds fear and uncertainty.
I had hoped that bringing back classic black and white monsters would eventually bring together a squad... let's call them a "monster squad" to bring them down.
From the imaginations of kids would the terrors be brought down.
But how will the phrase " wolfmans got nards" happen if every classic horror monster is a chick?

A movie has to actually perform well in theaters to get a sequel.

Daddy's Home made $242 million in theaters on a $69 million dollar budget making it a box office success.

Legend of Tarzan made $356 million on a $180 million budget. Once you take out the theater splits, advertising, and other odds and ends it barely broke even. It would have needed to crush on home video to justify making another and while $23 million is nothing to scoff at it's also not enough to justify the financial risk of making another movie.

I liked the benecio del toro wolfman, and it was definitely a horror movie. Unfortunately I don't think critics or audiences shared the same sentiment.

I'd love for the universal dark universe to take off, but I'm not optimistic.

$242 - $69 = $173
$356 - $180 = $176

Add in Tarzan's $23 Million in DVD sales to Daddy's Home's $15 Million... Tarzan was more profitable.

It's got a shite ROI compared to Daddy's Home though. 2x compared to 3.5x.

I do too. That's why I'm very skeptical of these new movies.

No, it wasn't. That's not how it works. It barely doubled it budget which means it barely broke even.

The basic rule is you have to double your budget before you start making any profit. Tarzan did not do that in theaters which means it had to do really big biz on home video to justify a sequel. It didn't.

Yeah, that wasn't a bad film at all.

I love a good werewolf movie, we need more.

This was the route that I thought Universal was taking. Instead they made an adventure movie that just happened to have an evil mummy as the antagonist.

I don't think they know what they even want to do with their EU for this. It doesn't help that they made a hype trailer using old monster movies that is really really lame and pathetic.
