Not a movie, but I rather enjoyed the Barbarians Rising mini-series that was on History recently.

The original is one of the greatest movies ever made.
Also, OP should check out Life of Brian.

Whether you like bad made for TV movies, or comically bad Eric Roberts performances, I recommend about three minutes of Cyclops
This is on TV a lot and it's great if you remember that Eric Roberts was once considered a legitimate actor and, in his mind, is indeed one of the greats.

Second this. It's a solid Roman flick made in the last 10 years.

I second I Claudius. Satyricon is also decent if you like wild, artsy movies. The Shakespeare film adaptations of Titus Andronicus (Titus, starring A Hopkins) and Julius Caesar (with Marlon Brando, James Mason, and John Gielgud) are also very good.
