Tenchi Muyo was my first real anime. I was so freaking young when it was on Tunami.
The one where they lived in the house was Tenchi in Tokyo right?

quote:I'm kinda watching Fairy Tail right now on Netflix. It isn't bad. It is just a little cookie cutter. It does fit the bill of a series that has multiple seasons already.
I thought about trying Fairy Tail. Seems...eh.
quote:I have no idea. That just came up on Netflix and I've been meaning to see it. It has a decent rating and is probably worth a watch.
Is Expelled from Paradise any good? Seems kind of like LH and SAO in some ways. Same question goes for Moribito and Fate/Zero.
Fate/Zero is very, very well done and has some great action and characters. It does get a little heavy on the emotion and can be a bit sad, but I'd recommend it.
quote:I personally don't like Inuyasha, but it is liked by a lot of people. Give it a shot. You might like it.
Just saw that Inuyasha is on Netflix, I haven't watched that in over a decade, but I might give it another shot. I don't really remember much.
The biggest problem that I may have for you with recs is that most of the shows I watch are the 25 episode, 1 and done-type series.
Baccano!
quote:
During the early 1930s in Chicago, the transcontinental train, Flying Pussyfoot, is starting its legendary journey that will leave a trail of blood all over the country. At the same time in New York, the ambitious scientist Szilard and his unwilling aide Ennis are looking for missing bottles of the immortality elixir. In addition, a war between the mafia groups is getting worse. On board the Advena Avis, in 1711, alchemists are about to learn the price of immortality.
Based on the award-winning light novels of the same name, Baccano! follows several events that initially seem unrelated, both in time and place, but are part of a much bigger story—one of alchemy, survival and immortality. Merging these events together are the kindhearted would-be thieves, Isaac and Miria, connecting various people, all of them with their own hidden ambitions and agendas, and creating lifelong bonds and consequences for everyone involved.
Black Lagoon
quote:
Okajima Rokuro is a Japanese businessman in a town full of Japanese businessmen. His normal day consists of social drinking with clients and being kicked around by his bosses. He finally gets a break though, as he's sent by his company to the tropical seas of Eastern China to deliver a disc. But his boat gets hijacked by a band of mercenaries hired to retrieve the disc. Rock (as he is newly dubbed by his captors) catches the interest of the only female merc Revy as she thinks he's worth a ransom, taking him hostage. However, the disc that was stolen has a terrible secret that's unknown to Rock, which causes massive confusion and chaos for both him and his kidnappers.
Jormungand
quote:
A ruthless arms dealer on a quixotic quest for world peace. A child soldier born into chaotic conflict. Their lives will intertwine as they journey together through the seedy underbelly of the world's arms market.
Higurashi no Naku Koro ni
quote:Tatakau Shisho: The Book of Bantorra
After moving into the quiet town of Hinamizawa, Maebara Keiichi spends his days blissfully in school often playing games with his local friends. However, appearances can be deceiving. One fateful day, Keiichi stumbles upon news of a murder that had occurred in Hinamizawa. From this point on, horrific events unfold in front of Keiichi, as he soon learns his close friends may not be all that they seem. Based on the amateur mystery game by 07th Expansion, the story is told in a series of different scenarios.
quote:Michiko and Hatchin
In a world where dead people turn into books and are stored in the Bantorra Library where anyone who reads a book can learn their past, Bantorra Library is maintained by Armed Librarians who wield psychic powers and their enemy is a religious society known as Sindeki Kyoudan.
quote:Shiki
After escaping from prison, the sexy criminal Michiko rescues an abused girl known as Hatchin. The two are about as opposite as they come, but their fates become intertwined through the connection of a man from both their pasts. On the run from the police and Hatchin's abusive foster parents, the unlikely duo set out to find this man and ultimately discover their freedom.
quote:Unbreakable Machine Doll
When citizens of a secluded village begin dying off in alarming numbers, the sole hospital's head doctor tries desperately to save his patients—but his efforts are in vain. Entire families are wiped out while others desert their homes. All hell breaks loose as the villagers discover their loved ones' corpses are rising from the grave with an insatiable thirst for human blood. Who is safe when the urge to kill in order to survive blurs the line between man and monster?
quote:Tokyo Ghoul
During the early 20th century, along with technological advancements, scientists were able to develop sophisticated magic. The combination of science and sorcery was Makinot, circuits made from spells that were put into objects to bring them to life and even gain a personality. It was developed as a military weapon and has now spread throughout the world.
Akabane Raishin is now attending the Royal Academy to become the best in the world. Accompanied by the lovely teenage girl Yaya, who is actually Raishin's puppet weapon, he plans on rocketing to the top of the class. However, his test scores come nearly dead last although his combat skills and determination are second to none. Raishin has to compete with the deadliest of classmates if he wants to come out as the king.
quote:Mirai Nikki (The Future Diary)
The suspense horror/dark fantasy story is set in Tokyo, which is haunted by mysterious "ghouls" who are devouring humans. People are gripped by the fear of these ghouls whose identities are masked in mystery. An ordinary college student named Kaneki encounters Rize, a girl who is an avid reader like him, at the café he frequents. Little does he realize that his fate will change overnight.
quote:Death Parade
This psychological thriller, based on the manga written and illustrated by Sakae Esuno, is about Yuki, a loner who's not very good with people. He prefers to write a diary on his cell phone and talk to his imaginary friend, Deus Ex Machina – The God of Time and Space. However, Yuki soon learns that Deus is more than a figment of his imagination when he makes Yuki participate in a battle royale with eleven others. The contestants are given special diaries that can predict the future, each diary possessing unique features that give it both advantages and disadvantages. Within the next 90 days, the contestants must try to survive until there is only one left standing. The winner will become the new God of Time and Space.
quote:
After death, humans are either sent to the void or reincarnated. But for some, at the instant of their death, they arrive at Quindecim, a bar attended by the mysterious white-haired Decim. He challenges them to the Death Game, wherein they wager their lives and reveal their true natures. Decim himself is the ultimate arbitrator of who wins and who loses, who will go to the void, and who will be reincarnated.
There are others if you don't like those. There are a lot of shows out there.
Plus, you may have seen those shows.

Nice job yesterday pulling Tenchi out of a hat. That's why I have the Scruffy signal.
Some of these shows seem a tad....dark. Even for my tastes. I'll probably give several a shot though.
I wasnt making the 25 episode thing a requirement, just a hopeful addition.
Btw, Expelled from Paradise is bad computer graphics. Looks like it may be a decent plot though. I have a really hard time with bad animation. Knights of Sidonia is once again an outlier in that respect.

Out of curiosity, which of those shows have you seen?
quote:That is too bad. I really didn't like the graphics for Knights of Sidonia and it wasn't my favorite story either. To each their own.

I know you brought up Moribito, and I've seen some of it, but it is very well ranked. Give it a shot.
Out of the ones I listed, the "dark" ones are
Higurashi no Naku Koro ni
Shiki (although it is a very good psychological view of what really makes a monster)
Death Parade
Mirai Nikki (kinda like Deadman Wonderland-type dark, more violent than anything)
Tokyo Ghoul
The others aren't really dark.

To be honest. I haven't seen a single one.
I only got back into anime in the past year. SAO did that for me. I really wish they hadn't rushed it to get 2 stories into one season.

Well, if that is the case, you have to start with Baccano!.
It is one of my favorites. It has a bunch of action and laughter. There is some killing and it can get a bit bloody at times. Also, it involves the mob in the 1920s.
I guarantee you won't regret it.
Then watch Black Lagoon.
Start with those two. I 100% guarantee you won't regret either.
And you have to watch them dubbed. They are two of the anime that you have to watch that way. The English voice actors are infinitely better than their Japanese counterparts.

Where can I find them? I know Black Lagoon is not on Crunchyroll or Netflix.

You can find Baccano! on YouTube.
LINK
That link has the English dub in HD, but it has the weird border people put on their videos sometimes.
LINK
That one has the dub without the weird border thing, but it isn't in HD.
Here is the link for the first 4 episodes of Black Lagoon on YouTube. They are all in the same video. The rest of the series is on the right.
LINK
You can find them on Hulu also.
Besides that, you can search "watch Baccano online hd free" on Google and you'll find a bunch of less than reputable sources that I've used before. Same for Black Lagoon. Animefreak works. Just heads up on the pop-ups.

Been watching Tenchi in Tokyo. The Tenchi Muyo! series is incredibly underrated. It has the perfect amount of comedy and drama. I'm going to watch Tenchi Universe next because I haven't seen it since I was a kid. The only thing I hated about Tenchi in Tokyo is how it ended. I wish we could have seen Yugi grow up and see what she would have been like and if Tenchi would have fallen in love with her like he did Sakuya.

I haven't watched Tenchi since it was on Toonami. I need to check it out again.

I started watching Gosick and it's pretty good.
Basically a Watson and Holmes mystery anime.
Main character, Kujo, is Watson and the female, Veronique, is Holmes.

The original Tenchi has some of the worst dub acting I have ever heard. I didnt realize how far things had come.
I am going to check it out, sounds like a good premise. Crunchyroll?

I've only seen two anime: "Spirited Away" and something called "Koto no ha no niwa". I have no idea what people think of them, but I rather liked them. Neither indulged in some of the more outre aspects of anime that the average non-anime fan tends to associate with the genre.

Well, I have one that I paid for. I stopped paying for it. That is what i meant.

I figured that's what you meant.
I understand not wanting to deal with the ads. Free is still free in my book though.
