Actually it is different. Game start times and game broadcast start times are two separate things that are listed separately.

It is different though. MNF coverage (key word) may start at 8 (or 7 or whatever), but there is always a very specific kickoff time (like 8:09 or whathaveyou) that is usually adhered to pretty tightly.

And again, it's not the promotional shite itself (commercials and previews are the norm in theaters), but it's too easy to start things at their specified times. Otherwise having a specified time is useless and stupid.

I have some complaints to add to this as well.

1) the Christie projectors that the Rave used to have were the shite. Those were the clearest picture screens anywhere. The new AMC screens are terrible unless you are in Imax.

2) The Rave used to have those popcorn cheese flavor deals. No more butter only now that AMC has taken over.

Yep. Its amazing how a change of ownership can do that. The Rave we go to in Vestavia was awesome. I was there a few weeks ago to see Man of Steel and you can just tell that the standards are a lot lower.

The ONLY good that has come from it is the 1.50 theater in town now shows 3d movies for 3 bucks, b/c they took a 3d projector from one of the old Raves.

Rave on O'neal ln was our theater since it opened. Since it was bought out, the clean up sucks, the service is absolutely terrible, and in the two times I've bothered to go since, I've had to get the kids to come turn down the lights 15-20 min into the show.

Terrible drop-off from Rave mgmnt. Movies too $ to have to put up with filth and slow-mutants running the theater.

Pay-per-view FTW.

Its all about management. They didn't change personnel aside from that.

Same problem at the Hammond Palace until Hurricane Gustav tore up the roof. They renovated a couple of screens that badly needed it, finally got digital projectors, and changed managers. The product has greatly improved.

We went to the AMC by the Mall of Louisiana Sunday afternoon to see The Conjuring. It was the first time we had been out there in ages. When we walked up, there were two loooong lines for tickets -- one line was for the human ticket takers and one for the automated ticket machines. But they had four people selling tickets and the line moved quick, a lot quicker than the automated machines. I was impressed they had more than one or two people selling tickets.
Other than that, I thought it was the same as any other theater in BR in terms of cleanliness and the number of trailers you have to watch before the movie. At least it was trailers for movies and not commercials for soft drinks or lame TBS shows like Falling Skies or Rizzoli and Isles...they pelted you with those at the old Rave.

Carmike Cinemas took over the Raves in Birmingham and they have slowly already started going to shite.

I actually don't mind Carmike all that much.. they aren't the worst theater company in the US by any means, and I feel they have done a decent job of keeping them up.

You guys are spoiled. Check out the theaters here in Columbia. There are at least 10 of them and they are all darkly lit and rundown.

Columbiana Grande isn't. Dutch Square is a shitty little mall and has a shitty exterior, but that theater is legit too.

Every movie theater I have ever gone to (including the Rave before it was AMC) always starts 5-20 minutes after it's official start time due to all the advertisements and other movie trailers. Did you never notice that?

Every theater advertises its start time for a movie as when the "First Look" ends and the previews start. I had a movie's start time at 7. It had quite a bit of previews so it didn't start until 7:20.... 7:45 this lady comes strolling in to watch it and I look over at a my gf and say "is this real life?!?"

yeah yeah, CSB.

Grand Cinema Monday-Wednesday right after work FTW! Hell sometimes they don't even play previews.

Screw that. I like to see movie previews. I just don't like to see soft drink commercials or ads for lame TV shows.

Back in the day, The Will Rogers Inst. would have a manager shut off projector and hit up peeps for cash in person.

Effective, too.

The AMC I go to in Firewheel is pretty good. The theaters are always clean, the service is friendly and they have self-serve drink machines so you can refill that $6.00 coke as much as you want.
The Alamo Drafthouse will be opening closer to me in a few weeks, so I'll probably start watching more movies there. I like their 18 and over policy unless you're with an adult, which means no unsupervised kids running around, plus they'll kick you out for talking or texting.

The theater was extremely cold when I saw Pacific Rim. It might it harder to enjoy the movie because I was so cold. Also there weren't very many 2D times. Other than that I haven't noticed any real drop off in quality.

Replacing the Rave bucket of popcorn with the smaller AMC bag was a huge letdown.

And then I asked for a drink carrier for my drinks, and the guy proceeds to pull out a plastic bag. "You'd better hold it at the top and the bottom"

Awesome.
