same here. eerily quiet

When I saw Lone Survivor, about 90 percent of the theatre just sat there watching credits for 2-3 minutes

Difference in American Sniper is that directly after the videos of his funeral stop, the screen goes black, the credits come up and there is no sound/music. It aided the silence IMO

Great ending though. I didn't know much about Kyle's story so I thought it was for sure over during the sandstorm. I am also glad it ended without showing what actually happened. They did him justice with the tribute

Watched this last night.

I liked it, but it wasn't near as good as I was hoping it would be based on all of the praise I've seen and heard thrown its way.

This is one of the few times I can say I've read the book, so I already knew CK's story (wasn't sure if they would put his death into the film, but I'm glad they did). There was some obvious artistic license taken (like the sniper battle and whatnot), but all in all I thought it was a pretty good look into what it would be like to see some of the horrors of war and then try to fit back into "normal" society.

I thought Cooper was solid, as well as Sienna Miller.

I did think it was a little bit jumpy at times (jumping back and forth between flashbacks and whatnot), but not too bad.

All in all, I guess I'd give it about a 7/10 or so. I guess I just expected more since I see it praised as the best movie of the year and all that...and as much as I did like it, that's not even close to being true IMO.

I watched it in Imax last night. Went to bed with an overwhelming (or underwhelming???) Feeling that I haven't done enough with my life. Soldiers sometimes get a bad wrap, but you have to admit, for a season, they get to do some pretty RAD shite.

Kyle/Cooper in the movie reminded me of my favorite older cousin, about his same age, also from Texas. The accent was spot on if you ask me.

I got real sad after the sandstorm (very poignant scene) blew threw the town, closing that act. I knew what was coming next.

The critics of this movie have it wrong. So do many of the fans. Kyle is not glamorized and war is not celebrated

I disagree. I think there was a great deal of propaganda in it('Murica good, Iraq bad), but I'll leave it at that so as to avoid turning this into a political bickering thread.

I do think the movie was more a character sketch than about the war, but the backdrop of a very controversial war clouded the character sketch for me.

I enjoyed the movie despite that aspect, but I kept having to tell myself that it was not a true story film to get to that point.

Which is why I posted nothing from the book.

I didn't find the movie to be overly political, but there was some there, which is almost necessary given the war he was in. It was actually a lot less political than I thought it would be, which was nice.

In comparison I felt less attached to the guys in that movie. I certainly did enjoy it but once the fighting began the rest of the movie was just a running gun battle and not much else.

yeah, pretty sure you meant Lone Survivor.

ZDT is about Bin Ladin, and CIA intelligence takes up 98% of screen time, not any battles

The movie is about the experiences of one guy, it's a "biopic," not a story about the war as a whole. It's told thru his eyes as the events take place, and as a true believer in what he was doing, is probably a good reflection of how things looked to him as he experienced them...right or wrong. I don't think there was a need to show anything more about the backdrop/reasoning for the war. There are plenty of other places that has all been hashed out.

Finally saw the movie last night and wow. Now, im a book reader so there were some moments I was uneven about, but I wont bring those up.

Awesome movie and I thought Cooper blew the fricking doors off it. The battle scenes were phenomenal and I though they did a great job of really showing you what it was like for him to have to sit behind that trigger. I did think that the relationship breakdown was also well portrayed. I thought Sienna Miller did a great job. Overall, the movie was just one big shot to the dick once you got to the end. It was hard to watch all of that knowing how it ended. My pregnant wife and I went saw it and she was an emotional wreck afterwards. If I had 3 thumbs up to give the movie I would give them all. I know it wont, but I hope this movie cleans up Oscars.
