Actors who were athletes first.

Just learned from the "guys who cant catch" thread that James Cann played ball at Michigan St so I was wondering what other actors out there had ever played D1 ball or higher athletics that I was not aware of. Keep in mind the actors I am refering to are the ones who became more famous for acting than they did as a athlete. Not the O.J.'s or Jim Browns of the entertainment world. Off the top of my head I've got:
Burt Reynolds - football @ Fl St (side note Lee Corso was his roommate)
Chuck Connors (The Rifleman) played for the Dodgers.
and maybe the dude from the show "Hunter"

Do people like Chuck Norris or Bruce Lee count? They were athletes first...
Or are you looking for more "traditional" American Sports.

Bob Uecker (MLB)
Bubba Smith (Football)
Vinnie Jones (Soccer)
Jason Statham (did not know, but he was an Olympic/World Games level diver.)
And the best I've found so far...
Ed O'neil...yes Al Bundy was signed to play outside linebacker for the Pittsburgh Steelers in 1969. Wow.

I'm pretty sure Craig Sheffer (Joe Kane on the Program) played college baseball and football until he busted his knee.

O'Neill attended Ursuline High School and won a football scholarship to Ohio University, where he majored in history. However, O'Neill left Ohio after his sophomore year: he spent more time playing sports and partying than studying and also feuded with his coach. He transferred to Youngstown State University where he was a defensive lineman.[4] O'Neill was signed by the Pittsburgh Steelers in 1969 but was cut in training camp
