I'll give you one: Heath Ledger. There is Dark Knight, and everything else. (yes, that includes the gay cowboy.)

Didn't see Lords of Dog Town did you? I'll also add Four Feathers.

well norton was definitely on the rise an then just fell off completely. but he's been great more than once.

i'm trying to think of an actor like a keanu reeves who nailed just one role. or a lot of times there are certain actors who were born to play just one character (usually a true story)

I disagree. Liked just about every one of his. Death to Smoochy makes me laugh.

Shia Labeouf - Holes.

All downhill since then.

I think the best example of an actor born to play a role/shitty actor/ good performance is Sylvester stallonne in rocky. He is obviously a horrific actor but his performance in rocky is pretty badass.

Seen both.

The OPs question is tough. There have been plenty of actors that have given one career defining performance but have been serviceable in other roles. Its hard to say someone sucked.

First Blood?

See, there again the same problem.

He should have received an Oscar nomination for his role in Oscar.

No way. Stallone is a great example. Terrible actor and I would have given him the Best Actor and Best Original Screenplay award for Rocky.

He was good on his Nick show before that.

Mark Hamil nailed it as the voice of Joker in B:TAS
