I hate to be a stickler here, but don't divert your attention from Alien. You should be in total observation (mesmerized) mode. Watch it at night. Turn the lights off. Get in front of the big screen you got and into the movie.

Agree...Alien was a work of art. My favorite line is when Cane says "Its purity is matched only by its hostility".

I was in 7th grade when it came out and my parents wouldn't let me see it at the movies which sucked.

In my top 5 of all time. Perfect casting and cinematography. No cheeze in this film. Was the also perfect timing with Star Wars in its glory.

Aliens was not as believable. Alot of slapstick and shootem up. Ripley wasnt as hot either. All in all though it was a fine followup.

The other movies didnt do anything for me.

No doubt. There is rarely a film that's gets the viewer emotionally-involved with the characters, even the bad ones, and carries such a feeling of dread/foreboding throughout. It is in a league of its own. The hopelessness/isolation/desperation as well as the individuality of the characters and their attitudes/motives couldn't be perfected on. It's simply, IMO, the best film ever produced. (And it's about an damn alien!)

I feel bad for Ridley Scott. I love his movies after this, but it's all downhill from Alien, IMO.

Man, I wish I could go back and watch Alien and Aliens with new eyes again. They really fricked with me when I was a kid. Under the sheets with your head poking out type stuff (take that any way you like).

Truth. It's all downhill from here, unfortunately. Get ready for the Rambo approach to the franchise...

ETA: Not to say I didn't appreciate Cameron's take, but it's like going from Jeopardy to Wheel of Fortune

They are both great movies in their own right. Don't compare the two.
