Wooly, I'm just gonna break it down for you.

Alien = The Thinking Man's Movie
Aliens = The Macho Man's Movie
Predator = The Neanderthal's Movie

Even though the Predator series is a great watch, never equate it with the Alien franchise.

Not trying to be an arse, it's just I like movies that others don't and hate movies that others love.

Alien 3 is incredibly boring and easily David Fincher's worst movie. I enjoyed Alien Resurrection and don't get the hate for it. Predator is quite possibly the manliest movie ever made.

I hate to be a stickler here, but don't divert your attention from Alien. You should be in total observation (mesmerized) mode. Watch it at night. Turn the lights off. Get in front of the big screen you got and into the movie.

I would say watch Alien and Aliens back to back. Then after you see those two ask yourself if you really want to see Alien 3 and 4. If you say yes than I say it would be best to wait the next day and watch them so you can atleast have a couple of hours to enjoy 2 really good movies.

I liked Alien 3.

Yeah, what Tivo said. Alien is by far my favorite, and Aliens is pure 80's action on steroids. Very little suspense, but awesome sets and scenes. It's very reminiscent of the Terminator movies by Cameron.

At least finish the 3rd. Not nearly as good as the first two, but it finishes out the story. In Resurrection, they PS'd it with care bears and Winona Ryder. This one can easily be forgotten.

I also like 3 more than most because having just 1 alien was a lot more scary than running from a ton. Loved Aliens, and it was a lot of fun, but as far as scares, Alien topped it in spades. So 3 has that going for it.

Because aside from cloning Ripley, there was nothing at all interesting about the story and the characters were completely boring. Plus, she has sex with the queen?????

There has really been only one avenue they've taken with the Predator movies: they come to a place to hunt, and we have to take it down. At one point, it's going to take off it's mask. Credits.

I actually like Predator 2, but one thing always cracked me up about it. Glover's character, in the last fight, finds the predator's spear, and you're thinking he finally has an advantage. What does he do? Cross checks the beast with in and they both fall off the roof. I pee myself every time I see it

Facehugger gonna rape someone, chestburst scene, humans fricked, at some point a woman is going to save the day. Credits. I can play that game too.

I feel the same way, but lots of movies have these "errors" that are necessary to drive the plot. When Dallas is in the air shaft I always want to scream, the motion tracker doesn't work for multiple levels! Or in Aliens, keep the freaking ship in orbit like you were told rather than landing on the planet and leaving your cargo doors open. Or this: Your badass marines are seeing signs of aliens everywhere and you learn that if you enter this part of a building you can no longer fire your weapons, what do you do? You stay the frick out of that building for now.

I guess I prefer the Alien series because it's one continuous story. Ripley's battle with this alien species. You get more emotionally invested in the story. And that's why you watch movies, right? Plus, I wish they would get over that "taking off the mask" gimmick IF they ever do another one. It worked the first time because of the novelty of not knowing what they look like. Every time since then, it felt like they were writing for the wrestling fans or something. This is our cue that the movie is coming to an end. Mask is off, he pissed, let's rock

If you look at it from the protagonist's view, it is still an effective and needed plot device though. The hero doesn't know what it loos like and the alien taking off the mask and showing its face is a form of intimidation.
