I'm from Marksville and Solomon Northrup was freed in the Marksville courthouse. The story takes place in Avoyelles Parish mostly. Never thought I'd ever hear "Marksville" and "Cheneyville" mentioned in a major motion picture.

Not sure if it was jindal, but the idea to allow movies/shows to shoot tax free seems to have been a good idea overall revenue wise.

From wiki:

quote:

Also in the 1990s, U.S. states saw the opportunity to launch their own production incentives as an effort to capture some of the perceived economic benefits of film and TV production. Louisiana was the first state to do so in 1991, and in 2002 passed legislation to further increase the scope its incentives. Over the next three years Louisiana experienced an increase in film and television productions some of which were nominated for Emmy Awards. The perceived success of Louisiana's incentive program did not go unnoticed by other states, and by 2009 the number of states which offered incentives was 44, up from 5 in 2002.

Joan Rivers ?@Joan_Rivers 7h
You know which film has a good chance of winning tonight? That movie about Katie Holmes’s marriage to Tom Cruise: 12 Years a Slave.

American Hustle was meh at best. I mean aside from the cast the story was just.......Who gives a shite? Its like they tried to make the most unexciting story on paper into a movie and pump it up to being this "Master Grand Scheme" story. But it just fell flat. All style no substance.

Yeah it was unbelievably good. Fassbender and Chiwetel deserved to win too I thought. If not for Alfonso I think McQueen was second best in directing

So sorry you missed the point. It was all about character and, well, in a sense, style. The "scheme", really was the McGuffin as Hitchcock would say. One of the most entertaining movies of the year with great performances.

You just made my point. Its a movie that has relies on great actors to carry out an otherwise shallow story. The whole movie centered around this "complex scheme" when if you look at it, its just a boring plan.

No one pumped it up as a "Master Grand Scheme" story. It was a story about people caught in a bad situation which became worse as the story progressed, dragging others into the situation. This isn't The Sting or Oceans 11. The scheme is a last minute save that prevents some of the characters from having a terrible fate. It's not a con that was in place from the start.

According to Christian Bale much of the movie was improvised. So, during the shooting of the film he noted to David O. Russell, "You realize that this is going to change the plot greatly down track." To which the director replied, "Christian, I hate plots. I am all about characters, that's it."

And there you have it.

Like I said, you missed the point. Cf., "McGuffin".
