Great premiere. It was really weird to be watching 24 again on TV after all of these years. I got chills when they cut to the clock after the opening. 
I really like the Kate character. The story about Heller was quite sad. It will be interesting when Jack comes face to face with Audrey for the first time.

Why does Jack do it? As best I can figure it, he does it because Kim lives in America, and for her to survive, America must survive.

Because he is Jack Bauer!!!! I did laugh at the reference to Kim. It makes me think she will indeed make an appearance. And as much as she annoyed the shite out of me she is a major part of Jack's life. If this is to be the final chapter of 24, she needs to be addressed.
My weekly most "24ish" moment of the night:
Kate tazing a security guard and no one caring or addressing it again.
Other nominees:
-Chloe randomly pulling up to save Jack at the exact spot he walks out of the building
-Jack's unknown partner-in-crime grenade launches a CIA building and they easily escape in an electrician van
-Basher, with a slit throat, opens fire from 100 yards away with a pistol and actually connects with Jack
I swore to myself when 24 returned that I wouldn't let any of the ridiculous plot points bother me like they did towards the end of the series, so I am enjoying them for what they are now. As long as they don't try anything completely stupid again. (See Season 6)

I'm rooting hard for a Kim, Tony, or Aaron appearance but I'm not holding my breath. On a positive note there's a lot of smoke that this wont be the last season, in fact there are reports that another 12 episode season has already been tentatively ordered

Why did they name that character Kate though. When I hear that name I think of Kate from season 2, one of my favorite Jack Bauer side pieces.

This never crossed my mind during the episode, but I have seen a lot of complaints about it in articles and comments tonight. It is pretty stupid to give her the same name especially since both actresses are blonde and Austrailian and actually look kind of similar.

I thought the premier was great. Chloe is still the shite. The only person that tells Jack like it is.
This episode covered almost all the basics: cheesiness, amazingly easy escapes for heroes and villains, "Damn it!", US government screwing themselves, a magic device, and the list goes on.

There have been episodes where a terrorist told Jack "I need you to fart real loud so I can sneak out the side door of this building that the FBI has surrounded when everyone is distracted" along with 23 successful attacks on ctu so let's not get too carried away.
