Jack Bauer will not be pleased

quote:

Fox is officially making time for more 24, albeit sans original star Kiefer Sutherland.

then why fricking do it?
quote:

The network announced on Friday that it has ordered a pilot for 24: Legacy, a potential new series that will feature an “all-new cast of characters” yet retain the “real-time, pulse-pounding, fast-paced format with split screens and complex interweaving storylines” of the original.

quote:

According to Fox, the project will center on a military hero who encounters a troubled return to the U.S., compelling him to ask CTU for help in saving his life, and stopping what potentially could be one of the largest-scale terror attacks on American soil. I’m told the hero in question (aka the ‘new Jack Bauer’) will be African-American; casting is currently underway.

.....cue the Idris Elba posts

quote:

“There’s a time jump, a new organization, a completely different story,” said Fox co-chairman and CEO Dana Walden at the Television Critics Association winter press tour in Pasadena. “It’s a contemporary story about the potential to activate sleeper cells in the United States. There are nods in the pilot to prior CTU agents, but no ongoing characters.”

quote:

The new series would span 12 episodes, similar to the recent, acclaimed limited series.

How can you do this without Jack...or Chloe...or Tony.....or mountain lion??

Obviously Idris Elba

Jack is one of my favorite characters and honestly, I'm glad he isn't coming back. Jack was a character that was so far down the rabbit hole, he didn't deserve a happy ending.

I really enjoyed the show the first few seasons, but finishing the last three seasons felt like a chore. I'm gonna hold off on watching this and just wait for the reviews.

Honestly, I was hoping for a reboot back in Season 2. Not because I didn't love Jack, but because I thought it would really heighten the stakes and result in a more interesting show if they made the clock the main character, and swap out the hero every year. Essentially, I was hoping it would go the anthology route that has become all the rage only recently.

But since they instead made eight seasons plus a movie, plus a limited series, of The Jack Bauer Power Hour, which we all loved (except when it sucked), it's hard to imagine a Kiefer-free show now. I'm obliged to give it a shot, but it seems like a huge risk. I do like that they got the original director back, though.
