It doesnt make sense with John II being Jack's son.

1. He was born in 1919 and we are already in 1923 and Jack and wife are just getting married.

2. Why would you skip a generation in the naming John 1 > Jack >john II? Makes more sense that Jack and John II are brothers right?

People do this all the time. Thats why his name is John II not John Jr.

Also John II would have to be John III's dad and the timing wouldn't work unless he was born a good bit later

If you are getting 1919 from that family tree that was posted in this thread, I think that date is wrong. Again, I think the family tree is mostly correct but they already made one error by saying Claire was Margaret's sister, which she was not. I think the 1919 is also an error. I think John II will be conceived soon (if he wasn't already given the quip that Jacob made to Elizabeth's dad).

James Dutton was confirmed the great great grandfather

quote:

However, all that speculation can be put to bed since Tim McGraw himself has confirmed it.

According to CinemaBlend, Tim says he plays the great-great-grandfather of John Dutton in the bonus Blu-ray content:

“I play John Dutton’s great-great-grandfathe
r. Our family is the first to discover Yellowstone and settle it. And in doing that, we are the first to really defend it and fight people off, and try to establish it and then survive.

Which means John I is the great grandfather. Which means Jack is the grandfather

The original title was 1932 and later changed to 1923 because of war dates.

My mind is blown.

Speaking of Clarie Dutton from 1883:

I hope we get some flash backs to the 1883 time. I want to see how James actually set the ranch up, got his first cow, how he died (we saw a little in the show).

Maybe it is me, maybe some anti-YellowStone bias but I found the first episode slow and uninteresting. I found all of 1883 slow as well and only finished it because I hoped it would get better.

I do too. I wish they did a 2nd season of 1883 to show how James established everything. Jacob mentioned in 1923 that he has been there since 1894. He came a year later after James died. I think there was a great opportunity to continue the 1883 storyline up to that point.

I don’t know what role John Dutton II has played so far or if he has been in Yellowstone, but based only on the picture included in those family trees and the basic premise of the show, he should have been played by Robert Duvall.

Had no idea she was Lydia in Heroes. I kept thinking where did I see her before.

Wish it had been the entire episode. Leopard vs. Man was a welcomed interlude to a cow vs. sheep grass-eating pissing match.

I found the episode a little slow (until the end), but chalk it up to development and foundation of characters, etc. so I will press on.

My SO had enough during the Indian scene and left to watch something else. Said he could not get into it. Neither of us felt that way about 1883 at any point.

Yellowstone itself has become guilty pleasure TV for both of us. (I read that it was originally supposed to be a limited series, which explains a lot.)

Have this show a shot. I've never seen Yellowstone.
First episode was good. Now watching 1883.
I like period dramas, like BBC type stuff so this is pretty action packed for me.
Tim McGraw is a pretty good actor.

I see others don't like Elsa. I don't see the hate yet. I was thinking her and Ennis would start a family line. I like his character. About to start episode 5 now.
