Didn't read through whole thread, but what about K-Rod/Braun right now (K-Rod has 13saves already this year with a 0ERA/.69WHIP...)

That's all great.....so is his OBP going to be higher or what?

Harper makes much more contact. They walk close to the same rate (10.5 vs. 11.1). Harper is younger. I would guess Harper would have the higher OBP, but not by much. I could be wrong though. As Stanton gets nearer 29-30 and his bat speed slows, how will his O-contact hold up? How badly will that affect his average?

Overall, I'm saying Harper will provide much more value based on similar bat with a slightly higher BA and his much better D.

I would consider Goldy/Corbin...but I don't think Corbin is that great. Wouldn't even make my top 10 even though Goldy is a freakin' stud.

Here's a good one IMO... one of Wainwright or Wacha and Yadier Molina.

I like him, but I think catching has taking a huge toll on his bat. I don't think he'll ever be the hitter he was in 2010-2012 again. Hopefully I'm wrong on that, because Posey is one of my favorite players. I just believe that if he pulled a biggio and went full time to 1B, 2B, or 3B he'd become a very feared hitter.

He hit pretty good the last year. Catcher is the one position where it is actually worth hurting your bat because its the hardest position to find and its production is most correlated to wins and losses

Matt Moore/Wil Myers
Wacha/Taveras
Dylan Bundy/Machado

are all good answers if we are talking building a franchise for the long haul.
If it would be right now and would be to win the World Series this year, then you can make a good case for Yu Darvish/Beltre

But you can't take any of those combos over Jose/Stanton

The top choices for a career and this year:

Fernandez/Stanton
Harper/Strasburg

Some other good options that may be more for the now than the present and future (not in any specific order and spaced by division):

Freeman/Wood or Minor

Votto/Cueto
McCutchen/Cole
Wainwright/Molina

Bradley/Goldschmidt
Posey/Bumgarner
Kershaw/Puig

Tanaka/Ellsbury
Crush/Bundy
Price/Longoria

Verlander/Miggy
Abreu/Sale

Yu/Prince or Beltre
Gray/Donaldson
Trout/Weaver
Cano/Felix

Why does everyone keep listing Verlander with Cabrera?

Verlander is not the best pitcher on that team.

You certainly can. Fernandez has no.1 in the game potential, and I like Stanton alot, but I would take Machado over him in a heartbeat if I had to start a team from scratch. You can find power easier than overall elite instincts and total package like Machado. Dylan Bundy was the best prospect in baseball only 2 years ago with comparable stuff to Fernandez. Taveras has the highest hit tool grade of any prospect in the last few years and Wacha has legit no.1 stuff and proved himself last year on the grand stage. Matt Moore has stuff to be a top 3 lefty in game and Wil Myers has prlly the 2nd best hitting grades of a prospect the last several yrs, only behind Taveras.

If it is this season, it's either Kershaw/Puig or Fernandez/Stanton depending on how much you value defense.

It is whatever. Scherzer is better now, but I do not think the gap is gigantic.

You're basing everything off of potential, when Jose and Stanton have actually done it.

Potential gets GMs fired.

It may not be a huge gap, but it's decisively in Scherzer's favor.

Look at the K/9 and WHIPs the past two seasons.

Yeh, what he's done over the last 200 innings doesn't qualify as production. You're right, he still has to prove himself.
