Landmarks commission meets today to presumably approve the video board at wrigley, which really should be the last possible stalling point. Can't imagine the City Council wouldn't approve it after Tunney gets what he wants and gets on board and the more detail oriented boards sign off.
Let the bitching begin (not from me, i think it's great).

Glad to see this get done. This should give Wrigley a second life as a nice ballpark, sorta like Fenway.

Glad to see this get done. I went to Wrigley a couple of years ago and it had a really cool feel to it, but there were definitely parts that could use an upgrade. I hope they hit the right balance of preserving the feel while updating the place.
And the rooftop thing is pretty neat, but it is dumb that those third parties get so much say in what the cubbies do w/ their stadium. The rooftop owners just lucked into a good thing.

Can't imagine Mayor Emanuel will let this one fall apart this close. He's got a lot to game by saying he got a team to dedicate that much money/jobs to a city without spending a dime
Emanuel hates the Cubs' owner. He refused to take his calls after it was released that Ricketts donated money to defeat Obama.

Yea he also loves having a 500 million dollar project funded privetly and the influx of money to the area.
He's also put pressure on the alderman and has publicly backed the cubs. He might have an ax to grind about the obama stuff, but he's also not a fool.
also think it was the father rickets, nto the owner of the cubs who made that donation. Splitting hairs but the point remains, that really doesn't matter in this situation.

Only thing worse than the old stadium is their fans ...(yes, Cubs hater, but lived in Chicago for a couple years)
My only wish is when I go there is that they put some damn toilets on the top of the bleachers.....walking to the bottom if you need to use the restroom is pretty ridiculous for the money spent on what you miss...
As for the rooftops, I am torn...on the one hand, some of the guys who run/own them are pricks, but it is pretty unique and something everyone should experience once

well since it's often considered as one of greatest ball parks i can live with being a little worse than great.

Use the stairs, not the ramp then, they're right there and its actually a lot closer than distance between seats in the bowl and the bathroom.

The part I like about this renovation is that they are actually putting money into the infrastructure (pipes, electrical, etc..) and not just the pretty things.

Good. Wrigley needs some upgrades, not only for the fans but player amenities as well. Some people will bitch, and that's fine. Project is privately funded which is amazing. I think they will do a good job of maintaining the charm and features the park has always had, while adding some much needed improvements.

Wrigley is kind of a blessing and a curse to the Cubs at the same time. No team's home is more synonymous with the team as Wrigley is with the Cubs (Fenway is close). But the situation surrounding Wrigley is such a clusterfrick.
The footprint of Wrigley can't grow much more than what it is because of the neighborhood. That leads to cramped dimensions compared to more modern parks. The rooftoppers have been a total thorn in the side. But as the Cubs ownership, you can't say frick it all and go build something new. You instantly become Bartman's rival as far as hated figures in Cubs history. So youre stuck with what you've got and the plan Rickett's has come up with is the best way to go about putting more revenues in the teams pockets.
