once again, it is not a race to the ground

Actually it is. The first to come down to the ground with possession makes the catch. 1 foot down during a catch = College football. 2 feet down for NFL. Back is the same as 2 feet. He had his back on the ground before 2 feet were on the ground for the defender.

you are wrong, if you can't read the rule (which is posted on the last page) I can't help you

you are talking about a catch...simultaneous possession is a starting point

whoever gets both hands on it first, as long as they land it is theirs...you cannot come in after a player has two hands on the ball and just add your hands and it be a catch

Look get honest and watch the play again.

I wanted Seattle to win but right is right.. That was so wrong.

The packers guy clearly has it to his chest. Tate threw it an arm every now and then.. but it wasn't simultaneous.. and Tate never came up with it.

The ref who could see the ball made the right call. The other guy, behind Tate, blew it. The int was against his chest with Tate slapping at it.

fricking this. So much this. If someone argues after reading this, then I don't know how they function in everyday life

seriously, just read this slowly

quote:

Rule 8, Article 3, Item 5: If a pass is caught simulataneously by two eligible opponents, and both players retain it, the ball belongs to the passers. It is not a simultaneous catch if a player gains control first and an opponent subsequently gains joint control.

the bolded point is exactly what happened on this play.

Does "gain control" mean catch the ball?

no it means GAINS CONTROL

it does not say "come down with a completed catch" or "comes down with both feet first" or anything you keep bringing up

Um, yes.
Gain control means two hands on the ball with the ball against your chest, in this case.

Not a troll. Just stating that I don't think it's a catch until you get both feet on the ground. By then, the wr had two hands on the ball.

Imagine this, if you will.
The laws of gravity are suspended for one play.
Touching the ground does not play into this at all.
The rule is not concerned with the ground at all.
If the defensive player had come down on top of the offensive player and no part of his body touched the ground, he gained possession first, thus it is an interception.

The instant Tate took his right hand off the ball he lost the case for simultaneous control

The end

you are acting like Tate had his hands on the ball the whole time, when, in reality, his right arm was off the ball even after both men were on the ground. His left arm is not visible, but given what we know about the rest of the play, what his left hand is doing is irrelevant.
