Would you rather an elite Defensive Line, Linebackers or Defensive Backs?

Elite defensive line is good against run and also generates the best pass rush in the league. But you also have mediocre LBs and Sub par DBs.

Same with the DBs and LBs...all great in run support and pass coverage but mediocre in other two position groups of the defense?

In our 3-4 scheme and I'd rather have elite linebackers.

If I can only get 1 elite group I'm taking elite linebackers. Having really good LBs can take a defense to a different level.

Defensive line

Great dline will make average db corp look great and make it a whole lot easier on lb

Say we had 10 points to spread over the defense. If I put 10 points in the defensive line, I'd have the greatest defensive line of all time but the worst LBs and secondary.

I'd go 5 points on the D line, 3 on the LBs, and 2 on the secondary. I have no idea if I'm making any sense

You just described Alabama's 2015 defense.

DL covers up weaknesses in LB and DB when they're eating up blockers on running plays and forcing the ball out quickly on passing plays. Being at the point of attack, the DL directly impacts the result of every play. That's the only right answer.

The secondary is gonna do their best dammit! They try really hard out there!

if i were building a football team, the d line would be my first priority, then d backs, then o line.

Dline. It all starts up front right?

In this day and age I am putting qb in the top 3. You can't keep up without a top tier qb. DL, OL and then QB. I would then focus on LB before DB. There are a lot more diamonds in the rough at DB than at LB. There are a lot of value DBs out there and not so much at linebacker.

Defensive Line. Easy. They can cover up other defensive inefficiencies easiest. i.e. Pressure makes the job easier on the DBs, etc.

Focusing on strictly just one of these positions gets you 8-8 at best

Easily D-Line, they make the LB's and DBs better by pressuring the QB and stuffing the run.

Probably the position that has the most impact on the game outside of QB.
