UCONN women are unreal. 7 straight Final 4s.

Could he do it with guys? Probably already discussed.

Thoughts?

They could've easily brought him in after Calhoun, and didn't. There's a reason he hasn't made the jump, although I can't figure it out myself.

no

it's easy to dominate when there's like 5 schools that recruits want to go to. much less parity in women's

No.

Not saying he can't coach, but he wouldn't be going to 7 straight final four's if he was coaching men.

He is making more than the men's coach

quote:

STORRS, Conn. -- Connecticut women's basketball coach Geno Auriemma has signed a new $10.86 million contract, a deal designed to keep him at the school through the 2017-18 season, UConn announced Wednesday.

The 59-year-old Hall of Famer, who has coached at UConn since 1985, will make $1.95 million in salary, speaking fees and media fees in the next year. That will gradually increase to $2.4 million in the final year of the five-year contract.

The move comes about three months after the school signed first-year men's coach, Kevin Ollie, to a five-year deal worth just under $7 million.

I wasn't asking if he could go to 7 straight F4s with guys. That's ridiculous.

Just curious as to if his teams would be top 10-20

Agree. There's only 2-3 schools he has to worry about each year.

Plus UCONN's men team was facing a postseason ban at the time.

I think he would do just fine at the men's level. Not nearly the level he is at right now, but could he coach a team to the tournament nearly every year? Probably.

Imo geno would be a top 10 means coach as well. Obviously he wouldn't be dominating mens like he is women's
But I could see him having his team in the tournament year in and year out always in ?the run for a national title

The issue isn't that girls only want to play for Tennessee, Duke, UCONN, Notre Dame, etc.

The issue is that the talent pool is very VERY shallow. Elite players are few and far between. Those players want to go to Duke.

There aren't girls that are gamechangers that go solo to play for another school. And even if they do, they have NO ONE around them.

Bingo.

Also, more continuity with players.

And, FWIW, if I were in his shoes, I'd do exactly the same thing and stay my arse right where I was.

that's part of my point. the few elite players go to 5 or so schools. he doesn't have to worry about many teams

Look at a player like Marcus Smart though. He is a game changing guard that basically single-handedly took OSU to the tournament. There aren't players like that for the womens game.

Or Shabazz Napier. UCONN is a 7 seed in the FF.

I'm not sure if it's just the style of the womens game, or if there just aren't that many elite women out there.

I think that since they play below the rim and creating your own shot one-on-one isn't a reliable option for women that it may just be the style of play.

You have to gov whim credit for making Uconn consistent but the level of competition isn't there year in and year out.
