Any rule change after 2006 is the correct answer.

Yep. We should allow horse collar tackles.

Wrong. The NFL banned the horse collar tackle before 2006.

quote:

The rule instituted in 2005 that forbids the use of the horse collar tackle was euphemistically referred to as the “Roy Williams Rule” due in large part to the fact that the 2004 NFL season saw 6 major injuries thanks to horse collar tackles. Four of those six major injuries were a result of Roy Williams’ horse collar tackles. On May 23, 2005 and as reported in a number of newspapers including the May 25, 2005 edition of the Lewiston Tribune, owners of NFL teams voted 27 to 5 to ban the tackle. The 5 times that didn’t want it banned were the Dallas Cowboys (the team with Roy Williams), the Detroit Lions, the New England Patriots, the New Orleans Saints, and the San Francisco 49ers.

An addendum to the OP, defensive players being able to jump offside and then get back has never made sense to me. That's holding the offense to a higher standard.

You have to hold onto the ball the whole time throughout the process of the catch. So if you catch the ball get your feet down and everything but fall down out of bounds and the ball pops out it's incomplete. Here's the Calvin Johnson catch the got overturned to incomplete LINK

The offense is held to a "higher standard" because they know the snap count. Are you willing to give both sides that info?

Pussy arse horse collar.

I don't understand why people complain about the horse collar rule, but nobody has a problem with the facemask rule. The only difference I can see, is that one has been around longer.

"Defenseless receiver"

Do the NFL or networks think the public cares one iota about player safety?

It's not like they're clueless about the risks they're taking since the first time they put on a helmet.

I agree. It amazes me that the NFL is doing everything it can to degrade it's own product. Let's face it, a huge part of the reason the NFL ascended to the preeminent sporting and entertainment position in American society is violence. Without that violent nature, you have arena football.

You know who watches arena football? Nobody
