You're wrong about talent. Penn State made a living owning east coast recruiting including Maryland and northern Virginia. They also ruled New Jersey. Those are fertile recruiting grounds if you're the top dog pulling in the talent.

If it wasn't for their moral failures before, during, and after the Sandusky/Jo Pa scandal they would be the second best job in the big ten (behind only tOSU IMO).

But the stink of the fans still defending and rationalizing will hurt them for a while.

Penn St is much more of CFB name than LSU in this country.

no

I think it depends on your region and your age. If you are younger LSU has been the bigger name for a while. The only major exposure most people under 30 have had to the PSU brand is a pedophilia scandal.

With Penn State down Ohio State and Michigan have been pulling in the elite New Jersey recruits.

I realize this is a deviation from the intent of this thread, but Greg Schiano left in January of '12, while Penn State collapsed in November of '11.

I do sometimes wonder what might have happened if Schiano had stuck around for an extra year or two, in terms of recruiting in NJ / eastern PA.

Maybe. Traditionally Rutgers has never pulled those recruits so I'm not sure he would make a difference.

it's not myopic to think LSU is a better program and a better job than Penn State

Penn State has a better historical record but they are not light years ahead of LSU as a historical program

All of this is very fair, and accurate in my opinion. With LSU on the coaching carousel, I would be fuming if PSU fired Franklin (barring an 8+ loss season). LSU in 2016 IS the superior job.

At this point, I have to hope Franklin can start to truly turn things around to the tune of consistent 9+ win seasons, or the stars align one of these seasons and Penn State is one of the only blue chip program with an opening.

This is really bad. You have Bama way too low. They lead the country in per capita players in the NFL so how do you have them below Louisiana New Jersey, the Carolinas, etc.

The NFL numbers are inflated from bama's current run. Go through the last several decades the talent the state produces is in line with Michigan Virginia and maybe a few other(Mississippi or Maryland)

OP, the answer to your question is an emphatic yes.

But the pedo scandal places a sickening stench around that place forever, imo.
