Do they even have 25,000 season ticket holders?

sure.

a couple of local 5 stars stay home, one of them turns out to be the best RB in the nation and the other one turns out to be the best slot receiver/KR in the nation and they win 11.
The next year, 5 of the top 6 locals stay home. They win 11 again.
the two 5 stars are terrific in their 3rd year and the WR/KR wins the heisman after he personally defeats both Clem and FSU in nationally televised games. He has two punt returns for TDs and 15 catches for 200 yards and 3 TDs in the ACC championship game. they are in the 4 team playoff and they win it in their first try. New England moves up from the 32nd spot in the first round and takes WR/KR with the 3nd pick in the first round and tosses in a pair of 2's and a pair of 3's to move up, and New England wins the next three NFL championships and the WR/KR talks up the U every time he is interviewed. Guys from North Jersey Catholic schools shun ND and commit to the U two years early.

You just wrote a scenario that every major college program in the country is familiar with

Miami's administration wants very little to do with "The U". Not to mention, destroying the Orange Bowl was a huge death nail in Miami actually having a fanbase

Seems like a bunch of cutting off their nose to spite their face. They never were comfortable with that football team being their cash cow. They wanted to believe that everyone was going to UMiami for the academics.

Something fishy was going on at Miami when they were good.

Miami has never put a consistent winner on the field without this fishy stuff. Whether it was Luther Campbell or Nevin Shapiro, it's the one constant behind their good teams. Miami is a small, private school that is normally very hard to get into. Also, the whole fan support thing holds merit. ESPN won't show whole crowd shots when they do games there because it embarrasses the program.

If they continue to hire the likes of Coker, Shannon and Golden around, they'll continue to struggle. It's that simple.

Golden is a solid coach. That school just doesn't have the passion, fanbase, and football dedicated finances to be great again at this time.

That could easily change though.

If Miles retires tomorrow, I'd want Golden on the short list IMO.

Well come on. Most every program has some fishy stuff going on. If they don't they're not very good. Some teams just go a lot further with it than others.

It's mostly that the current administration doesn't care about football. They've fallen way behind in the facilities arms race and they'll rarely be in a position to compete until they catch up. Teams like Iowa State have better facilities than Miami. That is completely ridiculous.

I'm serious. Miami is not doing well, but I really think he's just in a bad situation. What he did at Temple was pretty incredible.

He wouldn't be option #1, but I would want his name on the list of 10 or so. LSU football is a machine at this point with recruiting, fan support, money, etc. If Les Miles can keep it going, I think Al could too.

Um, no.

In 1992, a catastrophic year for LSU, LSU was still putting 65-70K butts in seats.

During Miami's last UNDEFEATED national title season, they averaged 47K per game and had 4 games under 40K for attendance with one game of 31K.

So no, you would be incorrect about that being similar to other "major" programs.

Not by a long shot. The coach is the most important, arguably, but there is a lot that goes into building a successful football program, but that doesn't make for a simplistic argument, like it is 100% dependent on the coach.

I believe he's only .500 in ACC play. His biggest win was beating 4-8 Florida.

Recruiting at Miami is a TALL order. It just isn't all that attractive to potential recruits in today's day.
