Nobody will probably play forever like he did.

And if they played as old as him, they won't have near the innings pitched.

This is what I am thinking .
Pitchers just don't throw the innings he did anymore. It could happen I just don't think I will see it. (I am not that old either )

All records will be broken except cal Ripken jr... they are all snowflakes now for that record, but there will always be a phenom to. Real records

The consecutive hit record is vulnerable then?

OP...I'm just not sure a strikeout guy will get the innings.

Nope. His 7 no hitters may be just as unattainable.

No I don't think so. Let's assume a pitcher is able to have a career strikeout rate of 10.3 K/9 IP. That'll rank third all-time behind Randy Johnson and Stephen Strasburg whose career isn't even finished yet. That pitcher will have to pitch over 5,000 innings to break Ryan's strikeout record. That's about an average of 230 innings for 22 years. In the past five seasons, there has not been a year with more than four pitchers who pitched more than 230 innings. So basically a pitcher will have to be an incredible workhorse who almost always finishes near the top of the league in innings pitched for 20+ seasons AND strike out batters at a historically great rate. The odds are just stacked against it.

His strikeout record and his 7 no hitters are safe. There's a reason why nobody is close to his 7 no-nos. He's also tied for the most one-hitters with 12. It just shows that when he was on his game, he was there best there was.

Nah. Not only do pitchers not get the workload that Ryan did (280+ innings 5 times), but the man was unreal into his 40s. From his age 40-45 seasons he averaged 201 innings and 232 strikeouts.

In looking up those numbers, I also learned that Nolan Ryan had an ugly BB/9 in his career. 4.7 walks per 9 innings. That includes 204 walks in 1977! But he pretty regularly led baseball in fewest hits per 9 so all the walks never amounted to much.

No. Hard throwing pitchers aren't going to last 27 years anymore.

Yet many people line up to talk down Ryan's greatness.

No one one talks down his arm, stamina or longevity.

When people critique Ryan it's a matter of perspective.

He was wild as hell with the Mets they traded him.

"(Nolan) Ryan's the only guy who put fear in me. Not because he could get me out, but because he could kill me. You just hoped to mix in a walk so you could have a good night and go 0-for-3." - Reggie Jackson

Nolan Ryan is No. 1 all time in the MLB record books for wild pitches in the modern era, with a whopping 277.

And most walks, but he played forever so he gets somewhat of a pass...still it's one thousand more than the 2nd guy!
