Why was tug of war discontinued as an Olympic sport in 1924?

Do kids still play this in school? I was always the anchor. I was a big ol' baw.

USA won gold silver and bronze in 1904.

We missed the 100 year reunion :/

I was a skinny kid, but by God I could arm wrestle and tug of war like a boss.

gotta make sure you wear gloves or you'll get brush burn like a son of a bitch on your palms.

you should start a petition for it. it will be like the summer version of curling. people will get so excited, watch 10 seconds of it, and remember it's just stupid to watch.

Back then, they were saving it for Battle of the Network Stars. But that ran it's course. Now it's time to bring it back.

Everybody thinks the anchor is most important, but really it's the front man.

Nah, the small kids went in the front. I put in a lot of time there so you can take my word on that.

Big boys anchored and the stronger kids were better in the middle. Front group's role was just to dig in and hold on.

What were the rules back then? How many per team? Were there different numbers competing like in Bobsled? It would definetely be entertaining as a novelty event. I'd rather watch a good tug of war than a women's Gymnastics floor routine or Ice Dancing.

You put in a lot of time there and have a strong physics background and have analyzed it or you put in a lot of time there and heard a lot of bro-science from the guys in the back?

I'm guessing it's the latter, so I'm not going to take your word on it.

I was in the second grade so I received neither grad level physics instruction in the matter nor "bro science" feedback.

My apologies to the tireless researchers in tug-of-war physics for any offense that I caused. I didn't mean to make a mockery of their life's work.

But thanks for the ego boost: I never knew I was such a tug-of-war badass to always get front or near front placement. If you say so, I sure as hell won't argue the point.
