There are commercials early in the halves so that there are less later.

The # of commercials are set

This I would agree with. FYI to the OP we are like an hour post kickoff and the first half is almost over

At least in basketball you can attribute it to teams hoarding their timeouts.
they can't take commercial breaks in basketball because there is no change of possession during gameplay, plus in college no quarters.

The entire reason they have 4:00 timeouts in college basketball is for tv. If they could add more, they would.

I am aware. But if a team has long, ball-control drive, they start jamming in commercial breaks at ridiculous times. You have a minor injury--the guy is limping off the field, he is already on the sidelines, but screw it--they've already committed to the commercial break.

And I don't care if there are set numbers of commercial breaks--there should NEVER be a commercial break after a touchback.

Slight (but only slight) sarcasm in title. Unapologetically taking advantage of the situation.

The broadcast gets 10 commercial breaks per half.

One at the 2 minute warning, one at the quarter break. The rest are generally front-loaded in the half to prevent any kind of cutout of broadcasts (e.g. the Saints play at 3, and the noon game runs late).

One thing the NFL gets much better than NCAA, as annoying as the post-kickoff commercials are. NFL games are almost ALWAYS 3 hours, yet college games run anywhere from 3:30 to 5 hours.

commercials last 2 minutes. how are you going to have credibility if the main point of your post is overstated by a full 50%?

They should have frontloaded the commercial time, but since it's not a close game they can spread it out through the end and no one will care...

You may as well change "thanks Obama" to "thanks Goodell" at this point.

I like that the college games go longer as well. Although college games have always had more plays than the pro game the gap is expanding.

The problem is NFL games on CBS NBC and FOX. The ESPN games have far fewer commercials.
