The old BCS metric takes twice the former and once the latter and divides by 3. That spits out .556 for UW, which is the 13th best in the country.
Damn. That's tough to believe after looking at their schedule.

A damning statement of the "eyeball test, no?"

No, not imo. I think it actually strengthens it. I don't think blindly looking at records is a good idea.

Look at OSU's win over Oklahoma. I don't think Oklahoma is anywhere near as good as their record or what people think.

Rutgers was 81-58 over 11 years prior to this one; they won eight or more games in seven of those seasons. They were by no means a guaranteed win.

That's silly .. it speaks to the fact that outside the top 5-6 there are big weaknesses with each team

Irrelevant. Your opinion doesn't score points.

I've been telling people for quite some time that UW should have been a safer bet than Clemson, and the idea that they were on the bubble was horseshite.

They were on the bubble because the computers had them at #5 behind Michigan going into the final week. Luckily for them, they played and beat Colorado, which was a two-fold victory in that beating Colorado is a true quality win, and their win over the Buffs slightly diminished the quality of Michigan's win over them.

True. You don't think Washington's #13 ranked schedule is a bit high, though? Hell, it isn't like CFB is all that deep this year, maybe it's correct.

Do you have the record for PSU's opponents and opponent's opponents?

It's a math equation. It's neither high nor low. It just is.

I'll just give you the entire country's SOS from my system that I keep for shiggles. My SOS formula uses the golden ratio (in English: one plus the square root of five, divided by two). Multiply your opponents' winning percentage by the golden ratio; add your opponents' opponents' winning percentage to that; divide by the golden ratio plus 1. Washington ends up with the #15 SOS with this metric.

Team Opp % OOW% SOS
