And I ask this not to discount Ohio State, but I'm having trouble following the committee's week to week logic.

Two weeks ago they tell me Ohio State is better than Clemson and Washington so they're at two. This week, however, you tell me that Clemson-only is better than Ohio State. Did beating a team ranked in the twenties by one score really impress them more than Washington beating a top ten team by a thousand scores?

Seems to me that either they keep Ohio State at 2, because they believe they're definitively better than Clemson and Washington or they should have been jumped by both Clemson and Washington.

Maybe they did it to keep Bama and Ohio State (the presumed two best ratings teams of the four) separate or maybe they did it to keep Ohio State out of the bottom four as that sort of insulated them from some controversy if it was seen that they chose Ohio State last over Penn State, but I don't get it. Am I the only one seeing it this way? Haven't heard others say this.

I'm not sure either, but I'm good with it. It gives us a likely Bama vs. either Clemson or tOSU Championship and while I expect Bama to win, I think those games will be competitive in the first 30-45 minutes of the game.

I said this as well, it's utter bs.

Why not put them at 4.

Yea they'll never say it, but I think this had to have come into play. They guaranteed themselves a championship game that will have some really good storylines either way.

They place OSU at 2, so after the conf champ games, they can move them down one spot, to 3 and say "blah, blah, blah we recognized the value of conf champ and they leapfrogged OSU", but still keeping their preferred title game in play.

I'll help you.

Yes, dropping Ohio State to #3 was simply posturing.

They should have dropped them to 4. I don't care about "the resume". Your gift was making it into the CFP without beating the Big 10 champ. Fluke loss or not, it is still a L on your record. You have 3 other champions in the CFP who should all be seeded ahead of Ohio St.

1. Bama
2. Clemson
3. Washington
4. Ohio St

You would have much less disagreement amongst fans if this were the seedings. I don't care if OSU would have been upset that you are paired with Bama. You have to beat them to win it all anyway.

I would have arbitrarily ranked teams to prevent reg season rematch.

Ohio State was the fourth team in but they are the three seed because that pretty much guarantees a big time championship matchup. Can't let Washington sneak into a championship game with Bama.

Washington played a pathetic OOC schedule.

The game at Oklahoma cancelled out the neutral site title game vs Colorado.

Ohio State then has three top 10 wins to Washington's one.

Ohio State has better advanced metrics, better RPI, better computer rankings, better overall schedule, etc.

It's not that hard to justify if you look at it objectively.

The committee does what it wants. It doesn't have a specific logical guideline that it follows. As such, there is no single logical rule that explains its decisions.

It was all about ensuring a Bama v OSU or Bama v Clemson championship game.

Did not beat Penn St. Did not win your division. Did not win your conference.

I don't care what your OOC schedule was. You failed to win your league and was gifted a CFP spot over a team you lost to.

Pretty easy concept. I'll speak in terms of a hypothetical power rating system for the sake of the discussion.

Let's say Ohio State has 100 power points, Clemson has 95, and Washington has 91. Then let's say Clemson's win over VPI is worth 6 points and UW's win over Colorado is worth 8. Clemson now has 101, Ohio State stays at 100, and Washington is at 99.

Record and SOS count more than head to head and a conference title. Not hard to comprehend.

Ohio State has a better record and tougher schedule. Head to head victory and conference title aren't enough to overcome that margin.

Computers still have OSU at #2, so putting them at #4 would be more BS than putting them at #3.

The committee judges many factors including OOC to try to determine who the best 4 teams are. So while it's not of importance to you personally it is to the committee.

The big10 east was a cluster and the tie breaker Should be best overall record where OSU would have gone to title game but big tens tie breaker is conference record only.

We weren't gifted a spot over penn st because there was another team in between Ohio state and penn st in the standings.

Washington was given the spot of PSU for playing Portland St instead of Pittsburgh

It's amusing how certain everybody seems to be that the committee puts so little thought and effort into this.

Yeah, what happened on the field doesn't matter. What really matters is that you feel that OSU should be #4.
