I'm not a Kawhi hater. I love his game. I just find it funny. There's going to be a loser in every series. GS will most likely breeze through OKC and Cleveland. But watch how much attention and blame will be on Westbrook, Durant and Lebron in the losses.

Howard and harden playoff series wins in the last Two seasons : 2

For Leonard : 1 vs maybe the worst team in NBA playoff history I might add.

This is a what have you done for me lately league. The bright NBA minds know how to select how far back you have to go for what constitues "lately", and in this case, 2 years is the correct amount!!!

In basketball circles im sure there is criticism of Leonard, im a quasi-Spurs fan and i can say im a bit disappointed not only in him but how LA fell off after game two. I still think Aldridge is kinda mentally soft (been knowing him since hs)

But KD has been considered one of the greats since the day he was drafted; Westbrook plays the "everyone hates me"/chip on shoulder/borderline malcontent persona and the media will always prey on the "can KD & RW coexist? angle ; and LeBron is LeBron so those guys are naturally gonna be subject to more criticism from the spectacle that is the national media (and tards like our resident msb "experts") right now.

Kawhi is still a relatively still a new star on the block. Once the shadow of tBig3 is really gone im sure he'll be subject to a lot more scrutiny.

Just mho gent. Definitely fair to say he didn't show up when it mattered but the Spurs aren't a two-man, one-man show like CLE or OKC so its tough to single a guy out. Parker was pretty bad too.

I said something earlier about fans and confirmation bias when it comes to players. That's part of why he gets a pass but wanted to amend that a little bit. Leonard is a special case.

You look at the top 20 in NBA jersey sales, and Leonard is nowhere to be found. But you line his statistics up with them and he's better than most of them.

Leonard is not a superstar. His results would suggest that he should be, but he's not. Superstars almost always have that type of personality and appeal that extends beyond the sport. That's not Leonard. He's calm and reserved. Most everyone likes calm and reserved because it comes across as humble. But they don't love or hate calm. They aren't drawn to calm. He doesn't inflame emotions.

So even if Leonard goes on to do nothing for the rest of his career, he'll have his detractors but no one is really going to go to great lengths to shite on the guy. There's nothing to drive that hate because he gives you nothing to react to.

Westbrook agrees with this.

I think it's a combination of him being a low key guy, likeable, and known by the average fan for his defense moreso than offense.

Regular fans see the Spurs as a sharing the ball free for all, so I don't think any of them really get blame as individuals.

Leonard isn't controversial. There aren't rumors about him feuding with teammates, he doesn't try to get his coach fired, he doesn't bitch about not getting the ball enough or not getting the last shot, he doesn't talk shite about the media disrespecting him.

Basically, he hasn't given anyone a reason to vilify him...so they haven't.

Right.

But the quiet, reserved thing is also a double-edged sword just like the superstar thing. Leonard's looking at players that are getting all kinds of endorsements even though they aren't as good as him.

Unless you are phenomenal, like amongst the best that the sport has ever seen (think Barry Sanders), someone with Kawhi's personality is never going to get the full credit for his play that he deserves. That goes hand in hand with getting passes though. He's going to be the guy that only hardcore basketball fans remember 50 years from now.

Do you think he really cares? The guy drives a 12 year old Chevy Tahoe because it 'is paid off'.

It has to bother him a little bit at times, even if it just a "why did they give a commercial to him" type of passing thought. He's human. I think it would bother anyone a little.

It's not the money part of it, it's the recognition. Everyone loves recognition to an extent.
