It will happen. I just don't want to deal with how bad those crowds are going to be. We are just having a party over at my parents house.

If you are planning on being at BC, you should stop by our tailgate. I have been inside the actual plant for a Blue Grass or two, and that was crowded enough for me. I wanted no part of what it will be like on Breeders Cup day. However, I did go ahead an purchase a parking/tailgate pass for the Hill, and at least 6 of us plan to thoroughly enjoy ourselves all day long on both days, utilizing the video screen while being able to bet, consume adult beverages, eat to our hearts' content, all while also being able to turn around and stretch our arms and legs.

I totally will I seem to always skip actually going home in favor of Lexington and keeneland. Home state is good enough, right?

Don't have tickets or a plan yet. Was hoping silver would run in the filly and mare sprint and i'd just get a paddock pass, but no clue after her last...

But after missing the Belmont at the last minute, I REALLY want to see pharoah run.

1. Because race horses are bred to race

2. he hasn't ever faced an older horse in his life.

3. Because I would literally take a shotgun and kill anyone who wants to tell me American Pharoah is the best race horse since X if he retires and never faces an older horse.

Seattle slew ran until he was 4, affirmed ran into he was 4. Actually the only horse to win the TC and not run their 4 year old year was Big Red. It's what you do. He hasn't even peaked yet.

The Breeders Cup Classic is a 5 million dollar race. he'd double his lifetime earnings if he won. why the frick would you not run there and he'd be the fav

If he wins the BC, does he solidify himself as one of the all-time greats?

..... that's a tough question. i still would not consider him an all time great honestly unless he like wins by 20 or something. i still dont' think he could touch ghostzapper or zenyatta and i don't think i'd put ghostzapper on my top 10 list of all time horses and I LOVE ghostzapper. A 4 year old Spectacular bid / Seattle Slew would absolutely run american pharaoh in the ground.

for him to be an all time great he'd have to come back and do it again next year. He'd have to face some REAL adversity, and over come it.

Right now i'd put him in the same ball park as Sunday Silence /Alyasheba / Easy Goer, who were great race horses but you'd never her anyone call them the greatest of all times. Greats of a generation maybe.

I plan to be at Keeneland for the BC.

I am one of those fans AP has brought to the sport.

In the past I casually followed the Triple Crown races but this year I have been betting on races every weekend and have really gotten in to the sport.

Super excited for the last weekend in October.

The matachup I want to see is AP vs. a healthy shared belief. Shared Belief doesn't get as much pub becuase he didn't run in the TC but he's every bit as good, if not better than AP. He's 10 for 12 lifetime and most in blowout fashion. He's made short work of California Chrome every time they raced.

If he's healthy, i would honestly give the nod to SB in a regular paced race, he's more movable than AP is and can lay off. But nothing would surprise me.

He was 12 or 15k before derby . My mare has a Tizwonderful on the ground by her now . Koreans bought him though and took him overseas.

So right now he's at OT 8's, but with a few more wins he could be getting OT 10's?

Sports figures routinely participate after they've proven all they need to prove. Also the last 2 TC winners raced well after TC.

It was such a bogus triple crown anyway ( particularly the Belmont)that he needs to win the Breeders Cup to solidify that cred. He'll probably pick his spots ultra carefully like Affirmed did.

They faced each other twice, California Chrome finished ahead of Shared Belief by about 3 lengths in one and Shared Belief finished about 2 lengths in front of CC in the other.

Honestly, while I think Shared Belief is a very good horse, I really wouldn't even put him at the level of say a once in a generation type horse.

I too am a little ticked off at the article. I absolutely do believe that it is only right that the humans that control racing should be dedicated to providing the safest racing surfaces, pushing out the cheaters that shoot up the horses with every drug known and unknown, and forcing those that are called trainers to actually have to pass some apprenticeship programs and tests like they do in Japan to prove they have put in the time and effort to learn their job well before having horses placed under their care.

However, since when are any of us guaranteed a life without pain? This idea of nothing bad should ever happen to anyone or anything is such a first world, and really an American, issue. The "pretty pony" brigade that is bound and determined to anthropomorphize ever creature would be shocked to see what these stallions would do to one another if they were allowed to "just be a horse" out in the pasture. Hell, they have obviously never seen a mare break a stallion's leg with one well-aimed kick. Racing in this country has a ton of serious problems that need to be addressed, but make no bones about it, it has also made these horses worth enough money that many medical and surgical advances have been accomplished because of it. There are a quite a few horses running round pastures and tracks now that would have died at birth even 5-10 years ago. Barbaro died from complications of laminitis because his shattered bones were no longer an automatic death sentence.
